Hi,

I\'m seeing very high exhaust temps.  Cruising ~80mph it\'s going up to 800. When accelerating it rises to 900 and increases so you need to back off.  The warning light also briefly came on.

There is a crack in the downpipe which needs attention, could this be a factor?

these temps are not that excessive..rotary run hotter than piston and i used to see about 800 on cruise and about 900 booting it..that was on a defi gge

Would be worth checking the condition of the cat if you have one on the car as this can cause too much back-pressure and raise temps.

Not sure what is considered too hot but I\'d suspect that it\'s a tad warm for off boost running.

It\'s certainly higher than usual.  It would normally run cooler off boost and only get up to 8-900 after a period of acceleration and higher speed on the motorway.

If your mapping is done right, you will see a decrease in EGT\'s under load.
Can you answer these:

Are you still running cats?
Where is the EGT probe situated(distance)
What fuel are you running
What does the car feel like at these temps.

question on EGTS John, if I fit a probe post turbo what temps should I see on cruise and on boost?

Up to 840 post turbo is safe for cruise. Not to worry if it creeps past this, but not excessively. To get this though you will need to run aggressive timing and stupidly lean fuel. As an example i aim for mid 13\'s - mid 14\'s at cruise with an EGT of 700-750. If you want to chat about this, PM me.

On Boost is a bit more special. I won\'t post here exact figures, but up to mid 700 is on the safe edge.

cool cheers John, Im having an EGT fitted whilst the car is at Reworx will PM you when I get the car back

Under load I see an increase in temperature.

1) No
2) I don\'t know, where is it_likely_to be?
3) Tesco 99 / Shell Vpower
4) The car feels and runs fine but obviously have to back off or the warning light will come on - so it\'s a bit limiting at the moment.  It wasn\'t always this way :)

rx7veilside

surfely egt will increase on load my impreza increased then dropped as soon as off boost

I usually see them in the downpipe.

My mates car (although non RX) used to have a major increase in EGT under acceleration (even if at 0.5bar) The car was heavily modified but on stock ECU which would probably be different when a PFC goes on - so I dunno why I just typed that! :spank

To clarify...If you are cruising and have mid egt\'s, you will see an increase in egt under load.If you are cruising with high egt\'s, if mapped correctly, the egt\'s will drop. Having an engine mapped producing very high egt\'s on cruise and increasing under load, is detremental to the life of the seal springs.
If it has started doing this recently, i suggest checking your timing and injector duty cycle. If you need more help, pm me.
Cheers,

John
