yamaster

i am wanting to fit a new back box to the rx the stock one is fitted at the moment and its just to quite for my liking. the thing is i have to use 95 octane and was told that runing 95 octane means u have to leave the whole exhaust stock??:(  is there anyway around this. i also wnat to fit new air filters but was told not to for the same reason.

i also have a ssbov that i want to fit. what do i need to buy to get this to fit and work corectly???

thnks

BlitzBoy

who told you that???
Get an Apexi ECU and have it tuned for 95 octane on the dyno, even better idea would be an Apexi plus WI then you can run 1 BAR on twins and 95 octane easy peasy

Im assuming that this is an FD?
If your car is an import running on the standard ecu, then it will probably be set to run on jap fuel which is over the 100 ron rating mark. If your car has been imported and no action has been taken to run safely on 95 then it could be a ticking time bomb of disaster.
My advice would be, not bother with the exhaust and filters as this would indeed make things worse, and lead to detonation. And purchase a mappable ecu, such as the apexi (newera are selling these at the minute with commander for around £460) then get the car mapped for the lower octane petrol. It may be a step backwards in the tuning stakes but will inevitable prolong the life of the engine

There you go again with your super universe moola :p
People on earth cant usually fork out ££££ just for wanton of a new zorst :p

BTW Yamaster whoever told you to run 95ron is talking bs...you need to run premium on stock cars to reduce the risk of potential problems :)

Edit:Ack i was too slow aswell

i just got the car from Carl at hayward its got a apexi ecu fitted along with porting. it was suposed to have a exhaust and filters on it when i bought it but was told it would not run right. im from ireland and u can only get 95 octane.

BlitzBoy

??????????????? Im very surprised you were told that, you can put exhaust and filters with an Apexi ECU and map it pull back the timing a little to compensate for the lower quality fuel. Speak to the tuners with rolling roads eg PIP at WGT or Reworx

so ur saying that fitting a back box and filters will be ok??

must give carl a ring a see what he says

BlitzBoy

yes if you get it remapped on a dyno, on the dyno they can monitor timing, knock, afr etc etc and get it safe on 95 Octane, defo get WI installed it only will cost you approx £500 but it will be the best 500 quid you can spend on the car

Yamaster, theres a few of us over on irishrotary.com who are in a similar predicament with regard to 95 RON fuel. I\'ve recently purchased an Apexi PFC that I hope to have fitted and mapped in the next couple of weeks - I\'m looking for a smooth powerband and increased reliability in terms of detonation, I plan on running everything stock for the moment. If you have a PFC already installed, then its just a matter of remapping the ECU for 95RON, there a handful of guys in the country who can do this work. If I were you, I\'d be driving off boost until you can get it remapped - severe detonation can kill a rotary engine.

Do you have access to a rolling road then CJAY? when you get it on the rollars pull the timing back straight away and then work from there keeping an eye on knock levels, also go on the aquamist site or coolingmist, there you can read the anti-det qualities of water and how you can run high boost on crappy fuel with water injection

Not directly BB, I\'d rather pay someone to do the job properly ;)

WI is probably not something I\'d consider on a stock engine but I take your point re running crappy fuel - definetely worth investigating.

I know a guy called Scott running WI on a stock engine and twins he has increased power safely using WI effectively so defo the way to go in terms of safe guarding an engine

Just to clarify, it will NOT be OK !

You MUST have the ecu mapped (tuned) for your fuel, and your modifications, or there is a high chance you will damage the engine.

Why did Carl not fit the exhaust and filters and remap it for these mods before you took it.Was it a case of lack of money or something else?

Seems very strange to me why it wasnt sorted before you picked it up.Why did Carl not map it for 95 fuel beforehand?Did you tell him you can only get 95 ron?

As previously said you can not fit these parts without remapping the ecu.
