Im needing help on engine size, i understand that there are difference bhp figures out there for different models.

I did think that most models were 1.3 or 2.6 which ever way you want to say it, but have had a look at a Jreg import that say\'s it 2.3.

Any help on this topic would be a great like for example what engines come with which model.

Thanks

arrouk

2nd Gen RX-7 FC is 1308cc but in uk are usually registered as 2354cc
3rd Gen RX-7 FD is also 1308cc & again in UK usually registered as 2616cc.

Some people have managed to get theirs properly registered as 1308cc.

The car is a 3rd gen but when doing hpi check it has come up with:

Engine Size:   2354cc

as said its on a Jreg and is a FD3S RB-X

Thanks for help so far any more would be great

There is also people on here with their\'s registered as a 2.0 liter!

At the end of the day Mazda made it as 1,308cc but UK DVLA state\'s that it should be 2,616cc.

So the fact that it reads 2354cc means there is no need to worry.

Ricco_04

Personally I wouldn\'t worry but if you want it to be correct then it should be either 1,308cc or 2,616cc.

Mine is registered as a 2,616cc but if you can get yours done as 1,308cc then you also see a benefit when it comes to buying your new tax disc! :D

dazpoynter

ok thanks for the help

if i insure it as a 2.3 from 89 on its half the price as insuring it as a 2.6 from 90 on, could this be why its registered as a 2.3. any ideas

Ricco_04

Yeah - it\'s insured as the previous model - FC!!!

If you had to make a claim then all they would have to do is look at your car for your insurance to be VOID!

Having said that though my insurance company have mine down as that but I asked them more than once if it was correct and they just said it was just their system - they know what car I have and it\'s all correct by them.

Why is nothing simple eh!

dazpoynter

Tell me about it.

Im sure its all worth it though.

Will just have to make sure they understand, have you get anything in writing or did you just spell it out to them.

Ricco_04

I did all mine over the phone - your best having something in writing from them to state all this - just so they cant come back at you in the event of a claim.

Apparantley most insurance companies are linked and use the same database so it\'s no wonder that they all get confused when the "what size engine?" question comes up. :Laugh

Cheers for your help.

Think im worrying to much have been after one for a while and just want to make sure i know as much as possible.

Any other tips or hints would be of great use.

Ricco_04

There is a 3rd gen model guide and buyers guide on the forum - they are pretty usefull.

Im of the opinion that you can\'t do too much looking and research and one of the best thing\'s to do is keep reading this forum - it\'s a complete wealth of knowledge!

dazpoynter

I must say since i found it my knowledge on this subject has grown and its help alot.

hopefull all goes well with the sale and i will start coming to a few meets and events ect

Cheers again

I don\'t understand why the second gen was a 2.4?

I always thought the 13b was ether 2.6cc or 1.3cc or 654x2cc and the 12a was 2.4cc or 1.2cc?

I know the hole DVLA/Govenment messed this up quite bad when they had to class the cars CC (to the degree they still don\'t know now)

I have owned lots of Second gens (most where Turbo\'s) they have all apart from one NA been 2.6 on the Log, now i have just Changed my FD from 2.6 too 1.3 with very little messing about (I sent them a copy of the Mazda sales Leaflet and a letter saying my car has the wrong cc) so read into that what you will.
