Gentlemen, this may a blonde comment, but.... deep breathe...
Could the tailpipe from the back box be say 1 ft long plus or is there a reason they are short!!!
Please dont flame me, im having a bad day!!

Grizzly

In theory they can be how ever long you want it to be (oviously not so long as you could Injure Pedestrians (that would make it an MOT faliure)

But there is no Mechanical reason why they are so short other than esthetics and regulations etc for MOT\'s.

So it doesnt restrict flow or otherwise! Glad it wasnt to blonde a comment!
Cheers bud!

I thought it had something to do with exhaust pulses matching length of pipe (M3 roadster has less bhp than standard M3 because of this) on a NA car.  Backpressure?  Correct me if i\'m wrong.

Yes on a NA car, Turbo\'s don\'t require as Much back presure and they get what they need between the Engine and Turbo. You often see Turbo Drag cars etc that are not worried about noise levels running a Short pipe out the side.

N/A\'s are a Diffrent Ball game. You have to Have a Tuned lenth Manifold and a set amount of back pressure as you say.
