Era,  he will only get 20mpg but LPG is about 45 pence per gallon, which works about 40 mpg.

In my 4.4 L V8 bmw, i get 250 miles to £25.

My daily is on LPG and you cant tell the difference between lpg and petrol,  it sounds and runs the same and is identical to drive.

Shaun,

You might be better off looking on ebay for an old style second hand kit with a tank the right shape for you, with an old style kit you can keep you stock carb, and although the tuning will be a little more crude,  you can always flick it over to petrol for a blat.

As for oil,  the 12a have a mehanical oil injection so you could just adjust the control arm to inject more oil lower in the revs
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Pics of 12A bridge with Nikki carby with all the bits blanked off, crude but effective...this combo gave me 15 mile to the gallon traffic driving.

shaunwil

wow, 15mpg on a bridge ! Will be a cool project to do if i get it done. Petrol running as a daily driver will be too costly. Wouldn\'t you want lpg if you got similar power and only costs about 180p a gallon ??

No.....:Nono! ..cos I need to smell the premix early in the morn..........:Laugh

If I were on a tight budget, desperate to use a ROTOR everyday......  I might consider LPG....however I dont need to fret aabout the fuel consumption at the mo:chat . Stock 12A set up good on NIKKI carb, gives excellant milage..........:driving

LPG can give MORE power... ya just gotta know what to do with it ;)

still i wouldnt trust it on a rotor. Due to the easier mixing of gases (than liquid and gas) the mix in the combustion chamber is likely to be much more consistent.......and burning just as fierce around the apex seals as it would be in the centre of the combustion chamber for instance....

I cant help but think that this might really effect longevity of the seals....

lpg doesnt detonate though!  good for high boost

From what i\'ve seen on ausrotary it is a very good option and I think people are just scared of using it. Hell how much does a 12a cost to replace ? Im not looking at bunging a huge turbo on and probably will only make stock power but it will let me play with one as a daily runner.

If I get it done i\'ll do a full write up.

One of the interesting things someone said on ausrotary was that you petrol isn\'t a fluid, it is supposed to attomised so it is effectively a gas anyway. The lpg is more consistant in its dispertion.

If you think about it there is less cr*p in lpg that is effecting the seals because it burns much cleaner.

haha i wouldnt agree with that....

I would say gaseoline is CLEANER, LPG is PURER. Plus if you up the oil metering ill garuntee your \'cleaner\' car wont be cleaner at all ;)

As for gasoline being a \'gas\' in the combustion chamber, that is a term i would use VERY loosely...... It is a mist. If you run through fog you get wet dont you......is it entirely gas then? NO.

Ideal petrol combustion is with smallest droplets suspended in air.....This can be done with relatively low injection pressures, say around 3-4 bar. Spray pattern has more of an effect on droplet size than injection pressures. Beyond this there is no advantage to having serious injection pressures as no better burn is achieved. Were not talking about gases here we are talking about VAPOURS.......vapours condense and have totally different properties. Look in the SI thermodynamics tables for dry Air at low pressures and vapour cycles ;)

Im not saying i wouldnt do it....just be wary. If you advance the ignition timing you should see appreciable HP too.

Good luck!

It is an interesting subject and will be very interesting project. The more i think about it the more i want to get it done. I\'ve been quoted 460quid for a single carb system kit off a company that sells alot of kits on ebay. I still need to send them some pictures of the engine bay and carb but that seems very reasonable. It\'ll pay itself back within 12 months on fuel cost.

I think if i was talking forced induction as well then i\'d be making it a very big project but on a stock na engine there is less stress in it anyway and i\'ll want to run purely on lpg without a petrol tank etc !

Definately interesting.

I would be very interested in this - finger\'s crossed you do it - good luck! :driving  (sorry oldone - im bad!)

it\'s not actually anything new, there\'s an fc running about in essex owned by my friend bob. it\'s been running on lpg for years, was done by rotechnics i think. i have all the gear to convert one of my ro80\'s, bought from a dutch guy who\'s also been running ro80\'s on lpg for years. i say go for it, i found sites a while back when i was reading up on it that were claiming more power on turbocharged mazdas when running on lpg.

Yep, lots of info on ausrotary. I\'ve finally decided to buy the car so hopefully sometime soon i\'ll have it and start work on setting it to lpg.

Plus theres a place near me that does gas for 37.5p/lt :p

Looking forward to getting it sorted.

37.5.......... bugger!

i pay 46 - 49p per li

Look for a calor gas outlet and they may have a paystation at the front selling lpg, its about 6p/lt cheaper than the garages.
