Thinking of going single and just started doing  some research on cost and components, a lot of the work was done before I bought the car with the big trust intercooler, uprated fuel pump (make not known yet, just found the reciepts from dragon) uprated fuel pressure regulater, apexi ecu.
one of my first jobs is to decat it and this will be a fairly simple question to most of you but do you still use the double pipes for decating stock twins or do you need a different pipe for a single tub.
Me next queerie is injectors, can I just put additional ones in into the inlet manifold (quite cheep) or do I have to change me secondarys to 1650s (expensive).
All responce and help muchly muchly appreciated and I\'ll buy you a beer when I see ya next.
Cheers Andy.

As far as the injector question goes you would be better adding a fuel rail plus the 1600 secondary injectors as the extra injectors on corner are hard to get running 100% effectively.

It can be done but needs lots of tweaking, some on here have the additional injectors with controller and might be able to answer more formally ?

Also what single turbo are you looking to upgrade to as if its a smaller turbo say a TO4E / S then you can get away with 1300 secondaries but if you are going very large single then the 1600\'s are a definate.

Also have you thought of going non-sequential instead as just like a single turbo kick but much cheaper then the upgrade ?

when you say going non sequential I presume you mean keep the stock twins on. What sort of bhp can you take them up to safely. Hoping to achieve around the 400 to 450 mark, am I being a bit optimistic?

D1 WTF

to get that sort of mark, you will have to do a lot all round really.  you will need a much bigger single turbo, you will def need 1600 secondarys, prob water injection.  will need to check your intercooler is good enough and your fuel pump.  you will have to do some exhaust work and you will def need to have a ported engine (quite biggish port).  plus a pretty high level of boost.  it wont be cheap.
IF YOU DIDN\'T CARE YOU WOULDN\'T BE LOOKING

Depends what you want the power for ? high power figures aren\'t the only thing to consider, Donato ran 12.9 1/4 mile running non-sequential setup with streetport making around 330bhp.

To get 450+bhp you will have to do alot and unless you have loads of money it might be better to sell yours and get a single turbo rx7 already modded as prices as low as £7500 will get you a single turbo rx7.

For 450+ you\'ll be looking at T78 / T04R / T88 catogory and they are kinda £2500+ just for the kit, then you will require all the rest to go with it ???

Non-sequential is when you get the twin turbo setup kicking in both turbo\'s at the same time around 3500rpm whereas the standard setup fires one first then the second :Thumbs-up

Thanks for your help and advice. Well I got the car at a reasonable price with a lot of the mods already done so I dont mind spending a bit on it. Ive rang round a couple of places and the prices dont seem that bad for the gains that you get. Godda remember I used to be a skyline owner and they are expensive to modify. the mazda is a fraction of the cost of the GTR. Appreciate your obbjections but I\'m still going ahead. So, big single here we come>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Only just read your last post, wot happened at donnington on saturday? We actually went down to the motocross des nations at winchester in hampshire which was a completely mental weekend.
We\'re up at South Normanton near Alfreton, came down to the bubble the other weekend but I was the only FD there, possibly cus there was that big Renault day on.

Carried on with me research for the single conversion and the minefiled just gets bigger.

Spoke to several FD specialists and they all say something different, whether it be which make and size of turbo, what size injectors, how many injectors, which decat.

All I want is an unbiased opppinion.

Think I\'m gonna go and buy a diesal fiesta instead.

i had a TO4e on my FD and had about 350 rwhp, full boost was at 4k, i currently have a gt35/40 on my FC with 380 rwhp, full boost at 3800.  I had a TD08 which is similar to a T88 in size on the FC initially but i didnt get full boost until 5300k. Although it was fast it was no where near as nice to drive as with the GT35.  I use mine on track days and the extra power lower down is great.

If you dont mind lag, then just get a T51 or T88,  you could easily see 400 rwhp but the turbo is capable of a lot more if your set up is capable, ie:  if you have a ported engine and the other related mods.    Go for a right size T70 and you will have less lag and still make 380 - 420 possibly more.  If you dont want lag, go for a GT35r or similar, it will make a great road car and you should see 380 without problem.

Its all about preference,  i suggest you go out in a couple of different set ups and see what you like.  There is no right or wrong when it comes to lag,  its just what you like.  I have had both and i now know what i like.  Others with big turbos like the lag as it is more than compensated for with the outright power.

There are enough different set ups on the club to pick one that suits you.

High rolling road figures dont always mean a fast car, there are FD\'s with a lot more power than me and a lot lighter, but slower down the strip.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Pop down to Japfest II at Donington this Saturday, MRC have a stand :) Lots of people to chat to.

cannonballer

No No No, Too many options, me head is gonna explode**********  Thanks for that mate, its cleared up a shed load of issues, all Ive godda work out now is what I want out of the car.
All the turbo power cars I\'ve had have had relitively low levels of lag, must admit the fd is easy to drive with the sequential setup, but then again,I\'ve never driven a car with a large non standard tub thats got lots of lag, so for all I know that might be my bag.
