Right some of you will have read my thread I posted on friday ( Coolant Buzzer On Constantly ). I traced the problem bck to the water pump. The waterpumps gasget had a hairline split in it which was causeing two prolems. Firstly when the system was pressurised there was water coming out the top of the water pump so it was loseing water and also the water was going streight onto the water pump pully and belt so the water pump wasnt pumping cos the belt was slipping. Fun Fun Fun. Now I have a new problem. I made a new gasget for the water pump as a temporary fix but when I went to refit the water pump I found that two of the bolts that hold the water pump on had sheared off whilst I was undoing them.

So my new problem is going to be getting the remains of the two bolts out of the holes. I have a bout 5mm left of each to play with. Anyone else had this problem , any advice on how to get them out without drilling them would be appreciated.

Thanks

Niall

5mm yeah, thats not much to go on. Are the bolts threaded?

You might be able to screw a thin nut onto the end of the stub and weld it on so you can undo it with a spanner although even that could be tricky on 5mm. Might find that the weld goes too if its a stiff one...

Ummm, no other ideas really. I managed to make a right mess of an engine stud once trying to get it out with a mole wrench. It did come out eventually but only with a couple of mm left and BIG blisters and much cursing.

Haven\'t tried this before so might be worth waiting for some other suggestions.

5mm aint gonna be a lot to play with. Think when it has been taken apart in the past there has been loctite or similar put on the threads. Was useing the correct size sockets were just solid. Might be easier to put a new water pump on .

Thanks for the reply

is there nothing of the bolt sticking out of the hole at all? before it snapped, was the bolt turning smoothly in the hole? was it turning at all?

Well if I take the front off the water pump there is about 5mm left sticking out. The bolt didnt turn at all untill the head came off in the socket
