With the recent stink over insurers looking for any way to avoid a payout, I was wondering, what is the best way to approach insurers when getting quotes?

Do you list every single little thing that has been done to the car to the poor person on the other end of the phone?  Do you tell them what power the car runs?  Do you send them a detailed list and wait for them to get back?

What is the best way to get a quote?

When it comes to insuring the car I want to make sure I do it right so there can be no come back.

Help and advice appreciated.

Cheers

My insurers (A Plan) wanted the general mods done to the car but were more interested in the power gain when calculating increases in premium.  The list was for completeness\' sake.

I would recommend hitting them with the bad news first if you don\'t want to spend ages on the phone. For me, probably the first sentence is "I want to insure a modified imported RX-7". This stops them wasting your time with 5 minutes of questions about your postcode, occupation etc. before they say "we\'re sorry, we don\'t insure imported cars!"

my trick was,

Hi do you insure jap import cars?

do you insure rx7s for under 25s?

that saved so much time, as before you wasted 15 minutes on postcode, status crap to say.. oh its an import, we dont insure those or oh we dont insure under 25s on those. or sorry we dont insure rx7s at all. blah blah :)
