Expensive is what they are! but well worth it over the stock headlamps.

QuoteHID stands for High Intensity Discharge. It refers to lighting technology that relies on an electrical charge to ignite xenon gas contained in a sealed bulb. The technology of HID automotive lamps is similar to that of common vapor-filled street lamps. HID lighting doesn\'t have a filament but instead creates light by igniting an arc between two electrodes. HID lights get their name from the intense white light produced by the electrical discharge. HID lamps are also called xenon lamps, referring to a gas inside the lamps. HID general lighting has been used for years in sports arenas and stadiums around the country

looks like the headlight on the new vertras.(the cops version!)

Friend of mine has some on his 200sx, they look the nuts, give of next to no heat either.

Hope that helped

I have HID fitted to my vented headlights and HID in nose lights, cost approx £2k

They give off a brilliant white beam.

Hi guys, just moved this thread into the General section.
Thanks,

theres a kit available for the calibra, for about 210 squid. Im sure it will be relatively easy to make them fit the rex. All it consits of is a ballast unit that has to be mounted somwhere.

As far as i am aware they should heat up loads, after all it is an arc an inch across at approx 10k volts.

dont know but my friends kit gives of no heat at all, especially compared to the standard headlights. He uses hid for low beam and normal for high bean till he can afford a second kit.

Similar in principle to flurescent tube lights. And they don\'t get hot :). "Igniting" the gas is a bit of a misdescription - nothing is burning - "exciting" the gas would be more accurate.

And calling them "Xenons" can be a bit confusing as well, as you can get get regular bulbs that have Xenon gas in them (IIRC).

I had HID lights in a Legacy GTB that I had before the RX7. Very nice lights, although only the dipped beams were HIDs- the high beam bulbs were normal filament ones, and the difference was large - dipped beam very bright white, high beam much yellower.
