For those of you who have done plenty of rebuilds, Do you find you get better results with the end float on the Tight side or the Looser?

I don\'t know if it will make any diffrence at all but i\'ve heard people try to get it mid way but i\'d have thought tighter would be better?? but as always it may not be a Bonus.

I would be intrested to know what you think?

As long as you have some end play,don\'t worry. If still worried, then set to spec as in manual, using a dial guage.

Grizzly

So as long as i\'m within the book spec i should be good.

I go for a lil more than a ball hair thickness play,I like them tight. As Tim says .....:Typing
Alil tight just feels good and under control...:Thumbs-up

Grizzly

Now this is going to sound Dumb!!

Im i right in saying the Bigger the spacer the tighter the end float is and the smaller the spacer the Looser?

Grizzly

And is there anywhere i can check out the sizes of the Spacers so i know if the next one up or down will suit me better?

I\'ve been given this which helps so i\'ll put it on this thread.

Target is .0016 - .0028 @ 95lbs

you reduce the thickness of the spacer to make tighter.
If u know a small machine shop with a surface grinder you can take the required amount of in .0001" increments ie(1 tength of a though cuts) to hit your tolerance.
failing that bruce turrentine says rub on wet and dry and re check end float to get within tolerance, but this way your spacer wont be dead parallel.
If the endfloat is tight to start with, you need a thicker spacer and then do the above unless its within tolerance to start with.

Grizzly

Yeh i\'m starting to think it would be wise to fit a Thicker spacer, my End float is .0010 which is a little tight (Thats dry) so i am thinking of getting the next Bigger spacer and posably take a bit of off to get it bang on.

I\'m just a bit Paranoid about killing the Trust bearings if its too tight.

same as my fd mate.
you need to work out your middle limit from your spacer that has .001" endfloat.  ie if midle tolerance is 0.0018" u need a spacer .0008" bigger than yours that read .001" endfloat.
if u get a bigger 0ne and want it grinding down to an exact size then give me a shout and i,ll sort it for u as acurate as you can possibly work out with your clock.
If u want a micron clock u can borrow mine, im only in oldham.

cjr

If i have endfloat i am happy if i don\'t i pull front cover. But hey i don\'t have a micron clock ( what is that) if i am happy with how it went together that is good enough for me. Btw my big engines have all made over 450 so i guess my if your happy how the build went practice goes
