Has anyone got any Tips on Fitting these things??

To be Quite honist its Driving me mad :2Confused

I have been using a Sharpening stone to take them down but its such a Boring job and its just taken me 6 hours to do one rotor and i have to look forward to doing the other one tomorow :(

Is there any way of taking down the them down with a grinder or some thing like that and finishing off with a Sharpening stone?? I would have done this but i did\'nt want to overheat and warp the seals.

Stay with the stone, its long but you cant take to much off, its a better smoother finish and its how its shown in the DIY-RE dvd set.

lol thats just what i watched today and guy was at it for a long time
and i was thinking omg looks like a very long job

O yeh

It\'s my new worsed job. :)

If they are in tolarance don\'t change them.

I use the wet & dry rubbing down paper like what they use in a bodyshop.
Or emery cloth. Normally takes me about 20 per side seal.

No these are Atkins

i\'d say there 5mm too long.

If you used genuine Mazda you wouldn\'t have these problems.
I use 600 grit wet and dry.

I was thinking about this as i\'ve yet to tackle it.

I\'ve read putting a side seal in a knackered rotor and using a dremel with a circular sanding drum
placed into the corner seal bore works a treat and keeps the angle.

Yeh but then you have set it up to another Rotor thats defeating the object of tolarance.

Ross, Do the Mazda Seals come pre cut then? (or closer cut)

Martiny

Last time I built a Motor, I had to grind the Mazda seals.

Not really -  grind them in the other rotor, but keep checking the clearance on the real rotor ?

Genuine MAZDA seals are a quick and easy to do..ditto on the paper Ross, only way to do it.:Typing

Grizzly

Well the next engine i build will be getting Mazda Side seals.

I have tried putting the seal in an old rotor and taking it down close and finishing it off with the Sharpening stone, that seems to work quite well.

For ONE day motors only (motor fitted to race car to sort suspension outon test days),I have just used the grindstone to fit them quickly....:2eek
