Hi all,

I was on here yonks back and was asking about the rotary engine... Then a bit later asking about  a RX that I\'d seen and on your sound advise decided to walk away (I think he\' still trying to sell it).

Anyway, I\'m now looking at a freshly imported R2, from all my lurking and reading I think I\'ve managed to work most things out ;)

Now the suspecision is that it\'s missing the front skirt / splitter under the bumper by the looks of things, now I don\'t know if it\'s been pulled off over a speed hump in Japland or it\'s had another front bumper in the past or if it\'s been crashed or isn\'t a R2... But it has no rear wiper / jet on the top, no rear seats and bins instead... So kind of looks like it could be a R2 from that.

It\'s a long way from me so it\'s not easy to pop by and I don\'t want to hassle the seller too much if it\'s not what I\'m after (as I know what a PITA it is when people don\'t buy your car after 30,000,000 questions ;) )

Also it\'s (of course) approaching that mythical 60,000 miles time... Now, are there any bits to look out for to see if an engine has been removed? (in the desperate hope it\'s been rebuilt before).

Many thanks!!!

you need to ask question about these types of cars especially RX7\'s. I didn\'t and as most know on here i paid the price in manys ways.

If the front skirt has been riped off then there will damage around the fixing points of the bumper.....

Compression test is still going to be your best bet matey.  Even if you could see signs that the engine has been removed you dont know when or how good a quality the re-build was.

Is the seller anywhere near one of the MRC vendors listed at the top of the page?  You could pay for the compression test and find out for sure.

If not can you get the auction sheet.  A good fresh import will come with this sheet.  it may give you an overall feeling for the car.  Doubt it would mention rebuild but is often good for info on crash damage etc.

Take it he hasn\'t got any receipts etc?

Sadly, I\'ve only get pictures at the moment so can\'t tell if it\'s been ripped off but then thinking if it\'s been changed at some point, why? Maybe if it\'s had some frontal damage ;)

I\'ve asked for the auction sheet, but nothing yet which again rings alarm bells... However the rest of the car does look very clean! It\'s why I\'m asking the pros ;)

It\'s in Liverpool, I don\'t know if anyone is close to there? I doubt it has any recipts either... I\'ll get some pics up and you can see what I mean about it looking very clean, all the panels fit very well etc...

Gimmy 5!

(P.S. Thanks again for the info!)

Think Pip at WGT is going to be your closest to Liverpool.

If you are interested in the car once you have more details hen i\'d mention the compression test idea to the seller, and see what he says.  If he wants a sale then he shouldn\'t have a problem!

Good luck! :)

When i was looking i noticed there was alot of R2\'s with no front spoiler fitted, rear Parcel shelfs where also a bit rare.

I would\'nt worrie too much, i know alot of people take them off becouse they get quite alot of abuse of Curbs and stuff like that.

I went to see quite a few in Liverpool, would it be Hybrid cars its at? Just before i bought mine i went there (they had loads of FD\'s)

RemarkLima

OK, thanks, that\'s good to hear!

Yep, it is Hybrid... What are they like? Good? Bad? The guy I\'ve been emailing seems to be a nice enough chap...

When i went they where what you may call in the Raw state, they looked like they had just come off the boat, TBH i wanted a realy high std car and they where a bit knocked around (Parking dents and bumper scuffs mainly) I also did\'nt like how all the FD\'s i looked at had between 40,000 and 70,000 Kilometers
Showing there was no higher than that

If you do make the Trip down make sure you pick the day when the Jap Auction is on (its 50 yards away) there is always 10-15 fd\'s go through for peanuts if you want to take the Risk, Its worth a look if your there just to see how much the Dealers buy them for. (Its called LPA Auctions in Liverpool Dock i think its every Wednesday)

May be worth E-mailing them for a list of cars going through.

I nearly bought this car http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW/cars_search.asp?nU=0&make=MAZDA&model=RX7&min_pr=75&max_pr=&postcode=SK10%202HS&miles=40&max_records=50&modelexact=1&photo=1
2nd and 4th ones down.

But a mate who at the time knew alot more about Fd\'s than I drove it and it developed rather a worrieing Miss fire at 5k as he changed up from second to Third giving it some.

RemarkLima

Many thanks for that, all good to hear! I don\'t mind a few dinks and scrapes, as long as it\'s mechanically sound... I do appreciated it\'ll be a gamble as to when a rebuild is due however!

I\'ll see what he says tomorrow, if there\'s no auction report then I may as well head to Southampton docks, a bit closer and see what\'s landing there.

I know the dealers get everything for peanuts ;) But then they offer warrantys and you always have some statuatory rights! But then again, profit isn\'t a dirty word either, and I don\'t work for nothing so I can\'t complain...

I know 94 seemed to be a revision change, but was there anything more sustantial than some rear seats that went missing?

Hi again all you wonderful people :D

This is starting to drag on a bit for me now... I only went and crashed my MR2 race car :( http://www.phpbbplanet.com/mr2challenge/viewtopic.php?t=104&mforum=mr2challenge for some nice carnage piccies!

So now I\'m going to have to spend a couple of weekends getting the bits together and bolting everything back one and making a few chassis adjustments with a big hammer! (The great thing about racing a cheap car!)

Anyway, I\'m keen to see a car at Hybrid Imports in Liverpool, but it\'s a really really long way for me to go! Would anyone be willing, if they\'re near by, to have a look at the car for me and see if it\'s worth my while traveling all that way? I\'m fairly commited to getting something cheaper and having to get the engine rebuilt at some point, but I don\'t want to travel all that way and find that it\'s been crashed, has ripples in the inner wings etc... And that it drives pretty well. Plus with having to get the race car ready in time for the next meeting it makes getting a weekend to head up there tight IYSWIM!

If anyone can help I\'d be owing them plenty of :guinness :cheers :cheers :cheers :guinness

Many thanks in advance!
Mark

P.S. I don\'t know if you\'d want to move this to the purchasing section?
