following an incident yesterday afternoon around mk- i was driving along showing my mate how fast my latest purchase was when i came off a roundabout and accelarated hard and then i had to slow down for the next roundabout. but as i came to one round about (this would be the fourth time i had accelarated hard then braked) the brakes must have overheated- i could smell something cooking through the window- and the car didnt slow down much quicker than when i just come off the accelarator. i said to my friend in a very calm voice  \'i\'ve got no brakes\'. for some reason i didnt feel scared and neither did he. luckily the car slowed down enough for my to take the round at a reasonable speed, then i just took it easy and the brakes cooled down and started being effective again.

so after my long winded story, what i\'m trying to say is-what uprated pads and disc\'s would best for my fd? i\'m after ones that dont overheat to quickly.
what do some of you guys use.

i\'ve heard some people say black diamond are rubbish and ebc are really good, but also i have heard vice versa so i\'m a little confused as to who ishould listen to hence why i\'m asking you lot-as you drive rx7\'s and those comments are from people who drive sierra cosworth\'s and the like.

also i\'m after replacements not big brake conversion\'s as i\'m not rich and i want to keep the standard wheels for a while as i\'ve just fitted a set of toyo t1-s

thanks

Good Morning,

If you use the search button at the top of the page you will find that much has been written about the things you ask.

Hope this helps
All the best Clive

just fitted some, black diamond grooved discs and pads, they have improved my breaking signigicantly (sp). i believe tnat they are designed for fast road/track applications so should sort you out.

Bought mine from our leader at SHY AUTO, best price.

cheers

New fluid and pads will see you right :)

PIPFC

fluid was done a week ago so should be good.

do grooved or drilled disc\'s make a huge difference over standard or is it more cosmetic than anything else?- all i used the car for is fast road, will look in to the black diamond disc\'s and pads but has anyone used or use\'s Racing Beat disc\'s and pads as a mate of mine works at rotechniks so i might be able to get a good deal on them if they are good

What fluid did you get as it can make a massive difference?

Groved discs make bugger all difference, I had standard discs on my Prelude and then had a set of groved, the groved actually wore out quicker than the standards, same goes for drilled and slotted.  If you are going to a larger disc setup or going to be doing track driving, then I would get grooved/slotted.  If its fast road use then standard discs and good pads will make the world a better place :D

PIPFC

i\'m not entirely sure as what fluid is in there, as i had all the fluid checked and changed by rotechniks so i\'m guessing it\'s what mazda says should be in there! what would you recommend or use yourself?

i will be looking at changing the brakes in a few weeks and will ask about changing to a better fluid.

i\'m going to japfest II in september, is it worth waiting till then and looking to see if anytraders have any deals at the show (are they much cheaper than buying from them normally?) or is it unlikely that there would have anything like brakes there?

sorry for so many question, you lot are probably getting annoyed at already!:-)

I\'m a huge fan (in a none geeky way) of motul rbf600, it costs about £7 / litre and to flush the whole system, you need 2l :)

sumopower stock it as do a few others.

As for pads, I don\'t know myself yet, I need to have a search around here as well :)

Forget about disks, and there can be too much emphasis on fluid.
The key area is the pad.
Fluids can make a big differnce if you\'re driving very hard a lot (i.e. on a track day), but if you\'re causing it to boil on the road then you have issues else where.

ds2000

^ not entirely true, it could be the pads going off, but if the heat being transferred is more than the fluids rating, it boils and gets air bubbles in it.

For the sake of £12 vs £70+ I know where I\'d be starting.
