Hi,

Just wondering if my car may be in need of a rebuild.

When I start the car up the engine shakes quite a bit and the gear stick shakes too. Also it idles strange, it goes like "flub flub flub flub" if you know what I mean.

As soon as the engine warms up all the shaking stops and it idles smoothly, also the car still feels extremly powerfull, as if there is nothing wrong. There is no smoke when warmed up.

Anyone think I have a serious probem?

Cheers

Hi Paul
Sounds to me like the vibration might be caused by a damaged engine mount [seems to be quite common]. The uneven tickover could be any number of things - what is the rev range on tick over, if it is to low [below 600] then it will set up some vibration.
I see you are based in Southampton - you are close to a few rotary specialists I would suggest you contact them and get them to have a look over - hope this helps:wave

The rough sound/vibration and idle at statrtup could be it starting on 1 rotor. it\'d then smoothe out when the 2nd one sorts itself out.

Mine was doing this due to failing water-seals.  Get it checked out - better to treat this early than after it lets go.  re:worx are in portsmouth and probably closest to you.

& on a rebuild note are rusty kinda plugs a sign of water in engine & potentially dodgy seals or maybe just old plugs?

Hi,

Took my car down to Jeff at ReWorx yesterday and after after a quick look he found what was wrong straight away. It turns out the inlet manifold gasket was split and needed replacing with a metal one. Had the car fully serviced while there as well.

When I drove it back today there was a big improvement. Sounds much better and idles well at about 800 revs. Before it would idle at about 1500.
