What do you guys use to Seal your gaskets etc on your engine rebuilds?

I have been using Blue Hylomar on the Water seals and Water Pump assembly etc and RTV Silicone Sealer on the Sump and Houssing legs.

I ask becouse i have just watched my Rebuild video and it has another sealer being used on the Housing legs? Does it make any diffrence? or is that mainly for T2\'s etc as they don\'t have the cut out?

Cheers
Chris

Jit

are uyou referring to the brushable sealant between the housings legs and the end / centre plates (a the bottom of the housings?)?

If so id be interested in the answer too!

Grizzly

Yup..

I have been using the RTV without any problems but it makes me think there is a reason they don\'t use it on the legs? I did think its proberly more a case it squashes out too much on the T2 engines and does\'nt seal properly? But i\'m guessing so i thought i\'d inquire.

I guess it\'s because the housing legs are effectively part of the sump ? the rest of the housing area\'s are being sealed by the blue hylomar are only in contact with the water ?

Is the RTV (room temperature vulcanising?) silicone the grey stuff you get from Mazda ?

Grizzly

Yep, The Grey stuff you stick the sump on with.

I\'ve used it a few times on the legs but as i say the rebuild vid shows some brushable sealer (which from memory if quite thin), i am now using OE gasket kits and oviously they don\'t come with sealer and am intrested why they don\'t use the same RTV on the legs? (there must be a reason?)
