I have a single turbo conversion on my car running a HKS T04R with a .96 Exhaust Housing.

My personal suggestion is that the T04 is a bit laggy and the ideal combo would be the GT35R that RE-Worx (and several other retailers sell) would be a good bet...

Excerpt from RE-Worx site (hope that\'s ok):

Turbo Kits
GT35R single turbo kit

Garrett GT35R single turbo kit. Comes complete with ball bearing turbo, stainless steel exhaust manifold and down pipe, Turbosmart Progate wastegate (plumb back)(wastegate not shown in picture), oil and water lines and gaskets. Popular kit good for 350+RWHP at 14psi on Optimax and much more depending on boost, engine porting and so fourth. Library pic, manifold since re-engineered. Wastegate can also be requested vented or plumb-back.

Delivery: Built to order, delivery 4 weeks

There is alot to think about, what Hp you want to aim for, Is it going to be used on the Track, Drag or street? What Budget you have? What other mods you have?

blackrex

Im going to be using it for the street mainly and a bit of drag, not sure about price low to mid range what do you suggest.

Depends on your budget as well. GT35R is the best all round turbo and also the best turbo for use with stock ports.
If you are looking for Drag then the T04R is a very good turbo (but you need some kind of porting, I found it good for the street/A roads due to the way I drive the way I use the gears, plus I have mapped it be quite quick spooling.
But nothing beats my T04Z setup I had, very quick spooling and very good ultimate power.

Hey BB what A/R did you have on your HKS T04R?

Cheers

on the HKS T04R looks like 0.96 the T04Z had a 1.15
I wasnt gaining any more power on the "R" by raising the boost past 1.2, 1.2 being limit feels like the 0.96 was choking the engine anything past that boost level.
Nevel found the limit on the "Z" I think 1.5 BAR will be the sweet spot for this turbo

Thanks thats the a/r I have on mine :)

1.2 bar sounds a good limit to me anyways :)

Thanks again!

the answer to your question could fill a few pages, even the term T4 can cover loads of turbo set ups...its a bit of a generic term, it all comes down to the specifications; wheel sizes (compressor and turbine) and A/R ratios are the major considerations.
i did alot of reading to come up with a budget kit for mainly road use, a few links below might help.
the master power line of turbos is very good value and the choice of specs is huge, there are also some turbonetic turbos on US e-bay from time to time; 62-1 with 0.96 a/r compressor for around $700. These should give 400 rwhp at 1 bar with standard ports (with good mapping) .
The GT35R mentioned is a good \'street\' turbo...but also one of the most expensive,

overwhelming opinion is that those are cheaply made, low grade turbos. (note these are xspower turbos not master power )

for some examples of old skool garrett turbos (there are many more)

http://cheapturbo.stores.yahoo.net/gatu.html

if you can avoid import duty/tax you are looking at less than £500 for a big garrett t4, compare that to a HKS TO4S turbo or even a GT35R.

master power turbos (garrett design, built in brazil);

As i said this is for those of us on a budget ! Life is always easier if you pay for a top end kit, especially from a top tuner.

BlitzBoy, what made you change from the T04Z ?
Sounds like that turbo is really good for street and A/B road blasts.
What revs did she kick in at and did she hold the boost till the redline ?
