hi all
pick up my rex gen 3 on saturday.
i do know it needs a rebuild(flooding when driving)but just gives me time to get used to working on them(i normaly work on normal engines not rotry ones)

will hope to keep you all informed of my progress.

while im on the subject how would i find out which parts would need replacing ie rotors or housings?
been told the tips could be worn on rotors thats why its flooding but why would the housings need replacing???

dandan

best bet is to take or send the parts to a specialist (check the advert bar at the top of the page) and they will usually tell you what is for keeps and what needs binning for free.

Welcome to the club too! :)

cheers once i get engine out should be able to have a poke around see whats up.
so you recon id have to send the complete block(engine) to them?
any ideas to cost from edinburgh to one of them??

My advice would be Buy a Rotary rebuild DVD then watch it very carfully.

Measuring up is not rocket Science but as dandan says if you are unsure its always better to have a Pro look it over for you.

Good luck with your project, see you bought the one off pistonheads in Glasgow.

Hello Mike and welcome to MRC,

Before you even consider a rebuild get the car compression tested especially if the car starts  OK from cold as it could well be a simple fault like the Map sensor pipe has fallen off,

BTW if you cant get a comp test done use a cheap tester and hold the button in.

Hold the throttle open and crank it over and you will see the needle flick up three times for each revolution, make a note of the readings and then check the comparison to the other rotor.

Hope this helps.
All the best Clive

I second that, the slightest problem with these cars and people immediately fear the worst! What are the symptoms exactly? You say it floods whilst driving, is it bogging down or cutting out or something?
