Hello all

Out of interest do i really need the commander?

as i dont like things sticking out in the car (makes it easy for others to spot i.e little thiefs)

and to be honest once its mapped I cant see myself tweaking it.

but the only upside i see to it is that you can see what the engine doing.

so for those of you out there running still most original i.e on twins etc is it worth it or not?

Its pretty usefull - the most important bit is that it shows an accurate engine coolant temperature reading. The stock gague is totally useless in this regard - when it moves from horizontal, the engine is boned.

Cheers, Paul.

lol never heard it put that way before lol

so looks like ive got to come up with a way of having it in view but not lol

I know one guy on here velcros it in view and then out of view every time but to me thats a pain :(

out of interest anyone know why the rx dials so **** poor? as my rev counter playing up and searching it all up seems all of them are useless :(

is there not way replacing them all with like autometer items ? if they are that poor ?

davyv

I have a 16 bit ecu if you want it for free, just pay postage.

aposegil

ah ok thanx davyv but bit confused what i would be able to do with it?

Frankie

I\'m fitting gauges in the spare din slot to monitor what\'s happening in the engine bay. Water temp, oil temp and oil pressure.

aposegil

really? so none of the factory ones no good?

if there anyway of just fitting after market ones in the factory bezel? save having replicated gauges?

Frankie

Nope they are no good. The stock water temp gauge is not linear so doesn\'t gave an accurate representation of your temps, just hot or cold. The stock oil pressure gauge isn\'t accurate and normally sits at its lowest position at idle when the engine is warm.

It is possible to change out the stock dials but its not that easy.  They are not the same as the universal 52mm gauges. There is a circuit board behind the stock instruments so you need to be good with circuit diagrams and soldering irons.

aposegil

does the comander read the water temps (this one i know already), oil temps and oil preasures?

or if i do go for the gauges in the spare din slot is not worth me getting the commander then?

Frankie

I dont know too much about the commander as i dont have an Apexi but most people on here swear by it.  Very useful tool and can have pre-set warnings for all kinds of things.  Not sure if it tells you oil temps and pressure, I\'m sure someone will be able to advise.

Frankie

Stock oil pressure, water temp & fuel gauges replaced by Sport Comp electric oil temp, water temp, and fuel gauges...

and digital SPA gauges...

RAW

i have an oil temp, oil pressure, and exhaust temp gauge below my head unit, like frankie said - all very useful.  i use the commander for air and water temps, and i have a boost gauge which i would say is essential, esp if you are having problems.

D1 WTF

frankie, how much did that cost to get the gauges changed?  do they run their own sensors or do they just link off the stock circuit board?
IF YOU DIDN\'T CARE YOU WOULDN\'T BE LOOKING

I haven\'t done that conversion on mine, those are just examples taken from  //www.RX7club.com answering Aposegils post about whether it can be done.

I only ever use the commander to change between the 2 setup boost maps - and I only use the higher map very, very occassionaly.

But I do have Defi boost, water and oil temp guages as well :)  I have the commander hidden away.
