:wave i currently drive a wee 1.3 106 rallye, but after going out alot im my mates corsa i want somthing with similar performance! seriously!, im not taking the **** lol (his corsa gets to 60 in 4.9 and tops at about 165mph).
anyway im wanting a rx7 gen 3 type r or above,  ive been looking around the site the last few days and its been very usefull! im pritty clued up with cylinder engines but I didnt have the faintest idea of how the rotory engine worked, but after reading up (alot) about it its got me wanting one even more! its amazing how it works!

at the moment im still trying to get a decent insurance quote at the cheapest ive had it around the 2k mark, im 21, 3 years driving and 1 year NCB but ive got a not of all the companys recommended (and ones not recommended *cough* highway *cough*) so ill be giving them a call at the weekend,

Im gonna go for one that needs a rebuild / just had a rebuilt but was wondering, i cant seem to find anything on brakes / suspension, it could be that ive been looking in the wrong places, or that they never go wrong...
so is there anyway somone to answer/point me in the right direction of a few quries i have?

1. what are standard brakes like? should they be upgraded or are standard sufficient?

2. ive read that standard suspension can be quite stiff, this doesnt bother me at all but is there any weak points? for example in my 106 (which is driven quite hard) i replaced all the bushes last year and now they are needing done again! does anything like this happen with rx\'s?

3. what are gen 3\'s like to work on? due to my current car being french:o , its off the road atleast once a month, so ive learned to do everything on the car myself, are rx\'s ever like this? ive not seen anything saying they are but people tend to keep that kinda thing quiet lol

Cheers

the standard brakes on the rx7 are very good, discs aren\'t cheap though so if you\'re buying one that needs them replacing make sure that comes into the bargaining.

suspension varies between models, but generally they are all ranked somewhere between pretty stiff and jesus christ my spine is now sticking out of my ass. bushes will probably need replacing on any 7 that is 10 years + old and done enough miles to need a rebuild (ime). my first rattled like **** from the back when on bumpy roads when i bought it, and it cost a fortune to get the bushes changed (something like 8 of them needed replacing at £40 a pop). my second one i made sure the bushes were good when i bought it, and i have a nice smooth ride with no crashing or rattling yet it\'s firm and assured through the bends. only other thing to check for on suspension is that a lot of them now have aftermarket kit fitted. if possible get one with tein coilovers on, they\'re the daddy :)

i had a 106 rallye and it was a piece of **** to work on compared to the rx7 :) i had a few 106\'s and other pugs though so i became adept at working on it even though i\'m not or would ever claim to be a mechanic. everything on them was pretty simple and straightforward. i don\'t do any mechanical work on my 7 though, i don\'t have a clue where to start! a lot of people here will tell you to expect an rx7 to be off the road frequently as well as they do not have a reputation of reliability. i can guarantee though if you make sure you don\'t get blinded and buy the first you see, take a good look at a few and ensure you get a good well looked after example and it can be very reliable. i\'ve been driving them for 1 and a half years now and the only problems i\'ve had have been the consumables needing replacing (brake pads/discs and suspension) and a leak from my air conditioning condensor :) look after them and they are great daily drivers that you can rely on.
