Simplified, if I switch on my aircon the car cuts out and the Commander dies.  As soon as I switch it off everything is fine ....... until now when it did something different:

Parked up at the petrol station, got back to the car and it wouldnt start, remembered my aircon issue so turned it off, still wont start.  If I leave the ignition on quite a few bits on the dash are flickering, there is a clicking noise and the Commander is flashing too.

Tried removing the aircon Relay under the bonnet, still no good.  What did help was having the ignition on, turn the aircon on and off.  When the aircon was on, it stopped flickering, but the indicators were on constant but very dim, with the aircon off, it was doing its flickering thing.  So I just kept switching it on and off and eventually it seemed ok, tried starting and bingo  :)   So started to drive home, but then......

as i\'m driving it keeps cutting out, for a split second, the indicators are on constant and dim.  Aircon is off.  Then after a mile it calms down but the indicators are still on, and idle is at about 1900rpm????  Get home (the whoele journe was only about 2 miles)  turn car off, try start again and its doing the flickering thing again.

It does seem its something to do with the aircon as switching it on and off does bring on a change in symptoms, added to the orginal issue of cutting out when switched on....

So what do you guys think?  Sounds to me it might be shorting out somewhere?  Or possibly not earthing properly?  Not sure if this is related but I have for a while had a intermittent problem with the blowers inside the car, sometimes they work, sometimes they dont.  It seems they go through a bad spell when I have had them on full.

Any ideas?  Typical this, got a whole day tomorrow where I was hoping to go out for a drive in the nice weather......

Dimly lit indicators sound like a bad earth.

I\'d pull the dash apart and inspect the wiring for starters, make sure everything is connected OK etc etc. You are having my dash at JAE aren\'t you, thats got spare AC controlls in it so we can give that a go.

Does not sound good though mate, I not be happy driving it in that state.

I\'d get an auto electrician to have a look at it pronto.

Plenty about.

Cheers Dave

I just went out to it, started no probs, no weirdness.  Took the opportunity to get it back in the garage.  Once in there tried the aircon and it cut out???

OK this gets weirder:

Put the hazards on and i get this on and off buzzing from behind the dash!!  The left indicator only flashes dimly.  Also, when the hazards are on the sidelights flash as well????   WTF!   Switch the air con on and off and the Commander goes on and off as well.

I\'m stuck now, dont know where to even begin.  It sounds like an earth, anyone know where the various earthing points are?  Anyway to test its that?

Looks like i\'m going to miss JAE now  :(

indicators are controlled by F110 box above fuses near your feet. They short out inside and cause the windows to go up and down in time to the indicators. That\'s no big deal finding another one of them, and couldn\'t be easier to fit. The air-con is switched through the fan speed controller and this unit could be up the pictures, like wise, easy to replace. I would avoid driving the car while it\'s misbehaving, it won;t cost you anything to leave it in the garage while you sort out the dash, but it could cost you the engine if you take it for a spin.

Just thought I would try the AA - I know I know but I pay for it every year and never use them.  Anyway they couldnt work it out, but they had no details on the car so couldnt locate all the earth points etc.  Fair play to the guy, he has just spent an hour trying.

One good thing is they have agreed to recover the car to Pip\'s in Middlewich for me at my convenience - which is a result.

Pain in the @rse though, I bet it will be something simple but because of this i\'m going to miss JAE and whatever else until Pip can look at it  :(

Anyone know any good Autoelectricians with experience on RX7\'s?

Try the earth underneath fuse box in engine bay on right inner wing,10mm nut.

Had electrical probs with mine, car wouldnt run properly, gauges /dash all going funny.Traced it to that earth in the end, took ages to find.Worth a try mate

Hope that helps

you dont have to find all your earthing points as many are hard to get to, Just find as many earth wires as you can and run tail leads to earth.
There are also two plugs behind front bumper with alot of the earths in, these can come unpluged
