How good is the RE Airfilter?

Been looking at different filters at the moment for the standard twins and cant really decide what to get.  I liked the idea of the RE airfilter as it\'s simple and has both turbo\'s sucking from the one, but how does it compare to the others in terms of performance and filtration?, I was either going to get:

1.) RE Airfilter with some custom polished intake pipes.
2.) Apexi Airfilters with some custom polished intake pipes.
3.) HKS Racing suction kit.

Also is there any online shops that supply RE stuff?

If you after performance either stick with the stock air box as it has its own cold air feed and stick a K&N replacement filter in, the others will suck in hot air from engine bay.

Or possibly used a K&N Apollo cold air feed system, you will just need to make a Y piece to join 2 in to 1.

Because of the price of the RE unit it may be best to get a 2nd hand one via Ebay, and then get a new replacement element if its knackered.  Failing that a good clean is in order.

You will have the same probs with any of the induction kits...hot air.  You need some serious ducting or heat shielding, otherwise the std airbox could be the best.

That said, the std box looks crap and I run HKS units with polished pipes!

Good luck:)

I was originally going to stick my HKS single turbo kit on it, but due to other commitments (my wife wants a holiday) it has to stay in the wardrobe for abit longer.

I would really like to gain a few more hp\'s and I liked the look of the RE one cause it give a nice clean simple look to it.

If it\'s going to decrease performance I wouldnt bother and just leave the stock job in.

I was going to install a cold air feed from the bumper though wether that would make much difference?

Just noticed on the net that rx7.com have a clearance on RE filters.  Not sure if they ship to UK, or if they have any left, but heres the link...

It looks a total bargain at $253!

I read a while back that RE-A was most restrictive in comparison to the rest. Apexi was the best then followed by K&N, HKS...RE-A...this is power gains wise...HKS gives 14hp gains over stock whereas Apexi gives 17hp over stock...

LRP has a nice setup made by Spec R (but you need the extra pipes to re-locate the filters)

The main thing to remember is keeping the air to the filter as cool as possible. With the filters usually being right above the radiator, you need to fabricate some sheet aluminium or as the yanks call it \'alooomium\' You can buy a sheet of alu 45cm wide and 70cm long from a good plumbers supplies such as keyline or travis perkings for a fiver. It is used for gas fires and attaches to the chimney in houses, but its perfect for a heat shield because you can bend it by hand easy. You simply fabricate this thin alu to fit over the rad and block the hot air from the rad, then get a cold air feed from outside and your away.
