Hey

Is it true about this whole oil smoke on cold start thing?
I bought my 1st RX7 in Sept.  It\'s a 97 Type RB import with just over 50000 miles on the clock.  I noticed the smoke thing about 2 weeks after buying it and its been pickling my head ever since.  I have even taken it off the road coz I\'m afraid my engine  or turbos are going to go pop.  Now I hear smoke might be perfectly normal!!!

I get a wee puff of blue then a thin stream for 10-15 secs and 3 or 4 mins of steam till the engine is warm(ish).  Does this sound about right?  I don\'t want to shell out for a reuild just yet:( :

cheers for the help!!

i\'ve had mine a year and i\'ve done 10,000 miles in it and its now at 44,000! mine does the exact same thing and i\'ve never had n e problems! i\'ve been told its perfectly normal! i\'d be concerned if it was blue smoke all the time! and the steam is worse at this time of year even on a piston even!

Squealy,

The smoke is perfectly normal.  The rotary engine burns a small amount of oil in the combustion chamber to help lubricate the apex seals.  As engines get older the smoke is more noticable as it will probably burn a little more.

More serious problems are ones like engine being difficult to start, green sludge in the oil, oil light on etc.

Always check your oil level also, keep it way above half.
Thanks,

Yup mine does exactly the same, had we worried at first when i got mine 2 months ago, kinda used to it now. Still makes you wonder cos there seems to be quite alot of it aswell. It\'s defo that time of year though.
