i think i may have blown my engine could anybody lend me a compression tester for a fd engine?

background info is just put a little fuel in and gone over mountain not great speed but then felt what i think is detonation then no turbo and idle was very eratic.

air temp was around 20 odd degrees water temp around 82-85 degrees and injector duty was around 80-85%.

what i think was strange is last year compression test was 9 + so pip said that is a good engine.

hopefully i wont need a rebuild but i am fearing the worst.
Obviously any help would be most gratefully appreciated.

When I was wondering about mine Carl got me to take the plugs out and turn the engine over without the ecu on.

Listen to the noise....if it is a rhythmic pattern then thats ok, otherwise if you get a delay then one of the tips has gone

cheers for that but how do u turn off the ecu

grinder

pull the EGI fuse - that stops it pumping fuel and firing etc....

did the ECU go into limp mode ??

i am going to get it on ramps in the morning and check the compression by

1.taking out the top 2 spark plugs and having a listen.

2.then having a look at the vacuum pipes on the sensor kev is there anyway you could shed some light as exactly where these are?

Also what could it mean if there is a fair amount of smell of fuel when the engine is running?

cheers again everyone

fingers crossed

The map sensor is mounted to the n/s of the car on the engine bulkhead. Its mounted on a steel bracket is black plastic about an 30x35mm in size with a single vac pipe and a cable and plug going to it, i\'ve no pics of one but someone will nodoubt post one.

well guys i would like to take this oppurtunity tothank you all for your help as i have now fixed my car to what i believe is rather embarrassing but still it has sorted the car out and was a grinder friendly price.

if you are all desperate to know it was a pipe that had came off behind the plenum (boost sensor)

thanks again for your help

A drop of superglue and cable tie cures that problem
