Got the car mapped last week, during some road driving i was getting some really high intake air temps circa 55 - 60 °C.

so i went home and got my engineers head on.

ive now made an extended duct from the inlet to the I/C cowling right in to the front nose.

it took me about an hour to knock up and is a bit heath robinson but................... its lowered temps down to 45°C.

anyone with an aftermarket nose...this is well worth doing.

pics pics n more pics?
sounds a like a worth while job to do (will add to my never ending list)!

will do tonight matey.

so surprised how well it has worked

i\'ve been trying all sorts to get mine down,
even resorted to putting reflective tape over the radiator pipes that run next to my twin filters to stop heat soak! (I should build an airbox really)
swapped to a sticky front number plate to open the front up a bit
I won\'t give mine any WOT if my temps are above 40°C, i\'m that paranoid!!
I\'m sure a some stage i\'ll go down the charge cooler route as this seems the only way of maintaining low temps efficiently (anyone feel free to advise if my assumption is incorrect)

Won\'t dissagree :Thumbs-up  Still cant get my head around the logic of fitting an IC in front of yer water rad on an FD seeing how important it is to keep these engines cool, high intake temps will reflect on peak performance but you will keep going, cook your engine and you wont. \'nough said.
At best the SMIC is best described as an interheater due to its poor ventilation, if your engine is pretty stock it is fine, make the engine work harder [IE tune it] and it acts as a radiator in your home due to the increase of air flow you are pushing through it the cooling effect is overwhelmed as anyone with a PFC commander will attest.

The beauty of the charge cooler is it is cooled by a seperate water filled system enabeling your charge temps to be kept at an exceptable level even in heavy traffic, during last summer [if we can call it that] I dont think I ever saw more than 40c intake temps and that includes some hard laps of the \'Ring where for over 11 miles you run on positive boost constantly.

I\'ve seen a few big ass v-mounts with a wide open nose like the C-west get some very impressive results.

You must post pictures!

Sounds great - I wanna see if i can do this with the nose i have on the front of my RX...

Ta, Paul.

Bump!

Post those piccys! :)

Well, I know where you\'re coming from, but you use a heat exchanger to cool to a lower temperature that the air going through it. Trying to cool water to 85C using air coming from the SMIC, is easier that trying to cool intake air to 40C using air coming from the radiator! Just need to make sure the radiator has enough capacity......

im still running a standard intercooler not for much longer thought within 3 weeks the v- mount will be on , but back to the point since spec-r designed the airbox on my car on a hot day the most i ever see is 40c ! and the duct they made helps alot well worth the money! contact them

?????? not with you on this one buddy. Point I was making was regarding putting a big IC in front of possibly the most inportant component - your water radiator, as you know water temps are everything with these engines, restricting the airflow to your water rad will affect temps and the demise of your engine, air intake temps will affect performance but please dont try to impove these without due consideration to engine cooling, this is a primary rule to modifying a rotary.

LRP interesting, what boost are you running and how are you ducting your airflow to the IC and intake, do have after market airfilters?

LRP

hello john this is the set up im running 0.9 boost on high

using charge cooler as well and on cruise my normal intake is 40-45c builds if stationary dont know how anyone is getting 20c as my car not running on hot day shows intake temp of 22c

Nice layout, cant see how your cold air box would keep you at 30c though unless you dont run any boost, by the shear fact the turbos produce alot of heat and you still have the stock intercooler [which is well documented as being pants] you might see 30c on cruse [off boost] but I fancy they rise quite a bit more when ragging the beast, that setup would be ideal with a decent IC.
The workmanship is second to none though, thanks for sharing the photo.
