stock catback has a heat shield?

Hi there,

My stock catback sounds like a rattly tin can until it warms up - i seem to remember that it was also cold to the touch whereas my new decat pipe was warm.

These things lead me to believe it has a heat shield over the actual pipe and back box - anyone know for sure? And can i take it off, or will it be rust central without it?

Depends on the material the pipe is made from! Mild steel will rust, but SS wont.
