Hi I have just fitted a second hand engine and ecu (which both can from the same rx) The flywheel is a lightened flywheel and when the car is on tick over seems to be running at about 1200/1300 rpm someone who I must say is not a rx person says this is due to the flywheel being lightened !! is this true  any advise would be helpful thanks :xconfused

Flywheel shouldn\'t make any differance to idle speed its just the speed the revs pick up at that you see a differance and the fact its easier to stall because there\'s less rotating mass.

Hi so do you think i should look at trying to reduce tick over or should i be aware of any problem relating to this if i cant get it down ?

First things first have you got a steady idle or is it surging. If its a steady idle then make sure there\'s a little slack in the throttle cable so its not holding the throttle open. Then adjust the air bleed screw on the throttle body. If its the same as the 20b throttle body it\'ll be on the top/middle of the body near the butterfly\'s it just needs a flat bladed screw driver to adjust it.
One of the FD boys will nodoubt confirm where the bleed screw is.

the engine has a steady idle and is not surging so i will have a look at the throttle cable first then i will have a look at the bleed screw :Thumbs-up
thanks kevin

asp

the ecu will be set of the car it came off,re set the ecu,

Hi the engine and the ecu were taken from the same car so I assume the ecu is set to run that engine could it possibly just be set to idle at 1200rpm ?

Grizzly

Is this engine tweeked?

People don\'t usaly Turn the Idle up that much unless its Tuned or has low Comp so idles realy bad and stalls all the time.

There was some one else asking about a dodgy Idle, and it was pointed out that maybe the throttles where not closing properly?

The Flywheel will have nothing to do with the High Idle but you may want to have a look for an air leak as well?

I would say 1200 is pretty normal for an engine that hasn\'t fully warmed up. Are you testing this warm hot or cold?

nikp

I have a lightened flywheel, and can confirm that it did not affect the idle. Idled at about 800rpm.

Hi we fitted the engine and took it for a quick run round the block where i live then let it run on idle on my drive til it got up to temp havent had time yet to look at above suggestions yet thanks chris

Hi first  i let car get up to temp is still idling at 1200/1300 rpm checked throttle cable and thats fine seems to be three adjusters one at the front of the throttle body head on top screws up and down one is a small screw thead with a nut on (vertical) just above the one i mentioned and the third is at the other side of the throttle body any ideas
Took the car for a bit of a run and is running ok seems to be rich and pops/bangs from exhaust when you take your foot off when you have acc quite hard  :2Confused

chris p

That will be unburnt fuel, again fom running slightly rich !
looks like a trip to portsmouth is on the cards sometime :)

Are you still ok for tomorrow ?
