Hi Guys

I am getting sick of the time it is taking my mechanic to do a re build - however we are nearly there. Once back on the road I want to take it to WGT to get alist of things that need doing like new ast, rad, water pipes, plug leads etc etc... I cant afford to have everything done at once but  will want it all done over the next few months. Incidentally my car is stock and I want to keep it totally original, just improve the basics. I just wondered if I could get some feedback from those of you that have used WGT - good, bad or indifferent.

Many Thanks

Great :) First place I took mine after buying in Jan and Pip sorted all my problems. A little expensive but that\'s what you get for specialist work....I\'d still recommend doing your own oil changes etc.

Pips a top guy, Your in safe hands.

Has been known to take his time but the results are well worth the wait.

If you want a Tip try to ring/Call in the afternoon as he has a little more time to help.

FANTASTIC, pip really knows his stuff, he has helped me sooooo much with my rex, I bought the car off him in Dec 2004 and it has never let me down.

He has supplied or advised on every modification and so far I have had no issues at all right up to the single turbo conversion I\'m doing this weekend.

He does charge a lot for his time compared to a local garage, but it is less than a Main dealer and for the knowledge he has I think it is money well spent! Think : Peace of mind!

If you just want to upgrade the stock weak links eg AST, Intercooler hard pipes... I am currently selling a set of Upgraded hard pipes on Ebay. It will be ending soon tho so be quick, the link is in the for sale section. (cheeky plug :p )

Thanks guys

I would love to change all my filters and fluids myself, just to get to know the car more than anything else. My inlaws have the facilities and do all their own servicing, but is there many differences in the procedures between a rex and a conventional car? - could anyone change the filters and fluids basically?

Cheers

Can I fit these myself?

Marky B

Yes, any garage could do you an oil change, the filters easy to get to just under the inlet elbow, an so is the drain plug, just make sure they use the right oil. I always use a full Mineral oil as told to by pip. a Garage may be tempted to use a semi synthetic or even Fully synthetic as these are usually used for sports or performance vehicles DO NOT LET THEM DO THIS! there are some synthetics that can be used, apparently Royal purple do one, but most are unsuitable.

I was wanting to change all the filters, oil, air, fuel and all fluids engine, gear, coolant, brake, power steering... do you reckon I could change all these myself?

On the oil topic, I have decided to go with Royal Purple purchased from rotaryart, need to check that wont screw up my warranty actually!

So long as its running okay without issues anyone who can do a normal car service will be able to service a RX7. Its with trouble shooting and tuning that a specialist comes to the fore. As regards oil your into the great oil debate. Whatever anyone tells you, use what your happy with or your engine builder. I for one and many others are running fully synthetic oil Total Quarts 9000 myself. Way up the advantages disadvantages and make up your own mind. If you do a search this subject comes up time after time.

It is still just a car and is not any different to any other car when changing fluids. The fuel filter is the most difficult maintenance i think, but is made a LOT easier with a pair of £20 ramps from your car spares shop. I did the fuel filter last year http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17961&highlight=change+fuel+filter

Hmmm just checked out that listing. Definitely interested in those! :p

I\'ve used WGT quite a bit and they communicate well, kknow their stuff and do a professional job. They are however mighty expensive, and justly so, but they charge the same hourly rate whether its Pip doing specialised tuning or a young spanner monkey ripping bits out.

With this in mind I would only send it there for expert work and not for the simpler jobs you could do yourself or get mates to do for you. Or you may end up feeling a bit short changed. I remember someone on here moaning about getting a massive bill for getting a stuck bonnet open and some other small jobs like that. These kind of things are not worth the hourly rate you pay. Mapping, engine troubleshooting and things like that are well worth the money.

All that said I would highly advise using them.

Yes it was a mate of mine,we werent moaning as such...just wondering if thats what was to be expected from visiting one of the specialists.

All ill say is go in with an open mind and like mentioned above have a go at the simpler things yourself before goin to a business.
