I\'ve noticed a few probs since the cold season hit, not sure if they are related for the weather but still wouldnt mind getting an idea of whats up:

Rear pads are sticking/rusting to discs if left for 3 or 4 days without driving (really big snapping sensation when pulling off first time, not nice, any way to get that to stop?)

Also having a LOT of trouble starting my car lately, if the cars warm and has only been off for an hour, instant (well near instant start)

If left for days, it sounds like its killing itself starting, killed the battery a few times trying to start it, battery sounded weak anyway, but its a relatively new battery, what could cause it to be going dead/crap starts, plugs, alternator??

Also i read these cars are supposed to start pretty much instantly the minute you turn the key, mine has always sort have ticked over once or twice then started, i know its a small thing, but what way is there to ensure an instant perfect start??

ANOTHER thing, how effective are people rear washer jet? mine is crap to say the lease, take about a min for anything to come out and when it does it literally trickles down the window. What are they supposed to be like??

Thanks in advance

Mine takes a few secs to start since the cold but i have not had problems with it not starting and killing the battery.

Plugs maybe a factor but i dont know enough about them to coment.

hey dude,

ya crappy starting could be due to a weak battery. Think i\'m right in thinking when it\'s cold the oil is a lot thicker whjch makes it harder to start due to more charge needed. The weaker it is the more of a struggle How old is it?

I been having a few odd things happen in the cold wet rather than the cold, but nothing too serious

My washer jet was doing something similar the other day, think mine was frosted though, cleared up later thou

The battery is less than a year old so shouldnt be weak already?

Is the temp rating of the plugs a factor? i.e. bitch to start when cars cold but when its warm starts pretty ok?

Familiar sounding symptoms.

1) rust breaks - mine does this.  I doubt it\'ll cause any permenant damage unless left parked for a long time.  Maybe park in 1st gear and not use the handbreak.

2) Starting.  I used to have to turn the engine over alot before it\'d fire up, this was dues to weak compression and failed water-seal.  Oil thickness didnt\' seem to come into it at all.  Now I\'ve had a rebuild it starts almost immediately in any conditions (standing 3 dyas to hot start).

3) Rear wash/wipe.  Mine gives water within a second or 2 so I guess you have a blocked/gunged pipe somewhere.

i\'ll try that with the handbrake thanks! :)

I doubt its compression (well i hope its not anyway!) as i had the engine rebuilt only 6 months ago. Somehow i think the poor starts and battery dying are related, and cold is a factor as when its warm its starts fine. Anyhow i\'ll ask pip to have a look as it goes in on thursday :)

My car has been fine until Sunday. Took about 1minute of turning it over before it started... I say started, more like struggled! - Left it for about 2mins then drove up the road and it was fine then. Pushing 65k miles now, still (I think) on the same engine. Got a tiny bit of oil leaking from turbos now but am told they\'re ok for a while yet *phew* - gotta last till Spring when I get my new RX-7 (or sooner - come on Miguel! ;-)

Got the prob with my turbos, they get swapped on thursday for newer lesser mileage ones so try get my starting problem sorted at the same time :D
