A couple of weeks ago someone kindly removed my passenger side wing mirror with their foot while the car was left on a street overnight, and as a result does anyone know how to replace the standard FD wing mirrors with a new unit?  I was trying to figure it out last night but with no success.  One of the screws holding the mounting plate onto the body was stuck which after about an hour of deliberating resulted in me drilling it out.  Aside from the head, the rest of the screw still wont budge.  Is this held on with a bolt from behind and therefore do I need to take the door trim off?  Also how do I disconnect the wire from the unit?

Any help is much appreciated as you can probably tell I am a bit stuck  :3Confused

I\'m pretty sure you have to remove all of the door lining to get at the wiring. I\'ve no idea about the screws though.

its really really tricky, best thing is to take the window out then reach up all the way up to where the mirror is and there is 2 nuts holding the mirror on. that it bit hard to get to

Ok thanks guys.  Damn.  Not a 10 minute job then.  Now the question is do I give in and take it to a garage or do I attempt it myself?

Mr J.T

i did it myself, just stay with it. at the end of the day unless you take it to one of the vendors the garage are gonna have as little clue as u

if you fold the mirrir forward and backwars you will find 2 screws, undoo these then the mirror comes off, the wireing clip needs to be undone by removing the door panel, then the mirrir base plate can be undone the same way, no need to undoo any nuts from inside the door what so ever.

I did this the other day to fit new mirrors. It\'s just as Davehg says... no need to undo bolts from behind the door. You will need to take the door card off to unclip the wiring though. Should be doable yourself. Incidentaly, I too ended up drilling one of the screws out!
