I\'m thinking about getting a Clifford 650 alarm with turbo timer and remote start options installed into my FD, does anyone have this model installed, if so, would you recommend it?

I have that one fitted. All cool but havent got remote start as that makes it non cat 1

Be aware of some fannying about you have to do when you switch off the engine to enable the Remote Start - I was going to get it fitted but this put me off.  Its a process you have to go through so the system knows you havent left the car in gear.  My argument was that if I have a turbo timer I would have left the car in gear anyway.  They were not convinced though.  I did fnid one fitter who said thIey would do it so I didnt have to carry out this process every time, buti he did say I wouldnt be getting a receipt and he would deny ever fitting it!!  :-O

I have a Clifford and the timer is very useful, just press a button on the remote before switching the engine off and you can lock the car, arm it and walk away :)

Only annoying thing for me is that to be Cat 1 it has to rearm itself if you leave it disarmed for a few minutes. Means you have to arm/disarm after filling with petrol.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I\'m getting it fitted tomorrow, it ain\'t cheap but I reckon it will be worth it.

Could you elaborate on this one Mark? If its a case that I have to sit in the car messing about with alarm settings before getting out, I may as well forego
the remote start option and sit in the car for a few mins each morning with the engine idling!

Just give them a call and check. It was a while ago I was thinking of having it done.  It might not put you off but it did me - obviously  :)

Probe?  That Timer you have fitted to yours?  How does it work?  Can you adjust how long it goes for?

All you have to do to arm the remote start is press both bottom buttons on the key fob before you take the keys out, its second nature nowdays.

got exactly the same in mine, turbo timer is excelent, although i dont use it too much now as it was recomended to me to just drive the last few miles slower and off boost. But yeah, they should be able to set it for however long you want. The remote start ive never used, forgot how he told me to do it and never bothered again! After 20 (ish) seconds from when the ign is turned off the alarm/imobiliser will arm itself, but it becomes second nature to dissarm it, and its only 1 button to press, not exactly a chore! :) I was told that the internal sensors can sometimes be a little sensative and set the alarm off, but ive never had that problem. All in all, Ive been more than happy with my alarm, and well worth the money
Hope this helps

yeah good alarms those concept 650\'s are. Even if you have the keys, you still need to enter a code using the plain view switch.

andyroi

???? what plain view switch? ive never had to enter a code. i have a code to reset the system if something goes wrong, ie disconnect the battery, your car gets nicked or if your a tit, but ive never had to put it in! sorry if that sounds harsh, but blame my lack of tact on carling! :)

My conceopt 650 has the blackjax system fitted. If someone drags you out the car grand theft auto stlye, whilst your at the traffic lights, the alarm will let them drive the car untill the revs drop below a given rpm or if the brake pedal is pressed. They will have another 20 seconds to enter a code and failing that, the alarm cuts the engine off and flashes the lights. When you get in your car to go to work or whatever, does the alarm beep and you have to enter a pin number using the 2 button switch?? If it is a concept 650, it should have this blackjax feature as standard. It is also a good feature if the ****s nick your keys..they will  still need this secret code even with the keys in the ignition.

They have to adjust it up to a max of 3 mins. I have a kit for connecting the alarm to a PC so I guess I could adjust it myself but no laptop means I can check it out yet :) Using the timer is easier than remembering not to drive off boost for 3 mins for me, also useful when moving the car short distances from cold to stop it flooding, just put the timer on and leave it.

Yeah, i do that all the time, saves a lot of messing around, and its not flooded yet!

Robbie, sorry mate, like i said, beer talking. Mine too has the blackjax feature, but the guy who installed my alarm disabled it for me cos he said it can make the engine cut out if the door is opened and closed then you drive it fast (grand theft auto style) the only time you should need to enter the code is either after GTA style car theft, or if the baterry was to go flat. neither has happened to me, so never had to enter the code. Again, sorry if it sounded harsh last nite. many apologies.:)

Got the Concept 650 installed yesterday, its certainly a complicated piece of kit with plenty of key combos to remember. In saying that, it pretty much makes your car unstealable by conventional means.

There was one problem with the install though - the central locking wasn\'t working to begin with, the installer checked out the circuitry and it all looks fine. He said that the actuator in the passanger door is shot and needs to be replaced, does this sound right? If so, any ideas where I might get one?
Engaging thealarm locks the drivers door but not the passenger door which is a bit of an annoyance....
