I went out this morning and got some heavy duty wiring, high wattage bulbs, fused relays etc., only to find the FD has plastic headlamps.

Is there any way of upgrading my headlamps?  My RX-7 is the slowest car I have driven at night because I can\'t see where I\'m going :(

Are glass alternatives available?

Are the *up to* 50% brighter bulbs any where near 50% brighter?

What about the PIAA ultra mega platinum hyper white bo***ks bulbs that claim 125/130 from 55/60watts?  Are they as good as they claim?  They cost a fortune.

Any advice appreciated!

Cheers

i need the same help, i got some bulbs from Halfords for my first Gen but i dont think they were 50% brighter - 20% i think.

But i either need somthing with about 50 % more light or some smart spot lights.

One of my headlamps had a milky residue all over the reflector which I\'ve just cleaned off, which should help a lot.

I\'ve just fitted a pair of 50%+ Philips vision plus bulbs.  I\'ll let you know how I get on once it gets dark.

I was also thinking about replacing the fog lights with some driving lights, but I think their effectiveness will be limited because they are mounted so low.

the small driving lights aren\'t really worth bothering with anyway ... to be of any use you need a good sized light.

I\'ve used the phillips type uprated bulbs in spotlights and they seem to be pretty good, not sure what a change they will be from standard headlight bulbs though ?   they are pricey though ... about £19 for a pair of spotlight bulbs !

would it be possible to fit somthing like a Cibie headlight in the FD shell ? or is it too low to fit in the pop up ?

Maybe a pair of super oscars would look nice on the FD!  Or even a bonnet pod :rollin

I removed the lamp when I was cleaning the reflector and there does seem space to fit something else entirely, so this may be a last resort, or I\'ll never be able to play with the FD in the lanes properly.:(

Just had my first big moment in the FD.  Oops.  I was wondering what everyone was worried about in the wet... now I know!

I\'ve just tried the new bulbs.  The Philips bulbs are brighter, but they\'re a complete joke compared to my 405 with standard bulbs.  Hard to quantify how much brighter, especially when it\'s wet, but definitely not bright enough!

Lenses and reflectors are in excellent condition now they\'ve been cleaned
