He\'s running the same tyres as mine Era so shouldn\'t have any problems from that front so long as the pressures are okay.

As the informed have quoted old boy.DIFF BRACE is the answer.......now knowing the history of your tyres..... :Typing

Generally run 29-30 psi....Don\'t think its a tyre problem though.
FD or not FD? that is the question.

Adriansturgess

A lot of people have suggested diff brace and this may well cure it but what troubles me is will this just be covering up an underlying problem....I\'m still going to check out the diff mounts - does anybody know what kind of a job changing the diff mounts will be - is it a bitch????
FD or not FD? that is the question.

Any body got any advice on changing diff mounts?????? Also how easy is it to tell if they need replacing or not - Will it be pretty obvious??????????

I have noticed something similar on the FC when hoofing it away from the lights etc.  I think it\'s called tramping and is very bad for the car. :(

I also run Eagle F1\'s which are a medium compound tyre and generally known to be good and grippy.

Does anyone know if a diff brace is an option for us FC boys ?

The FC is very diffrent as the diff is bolted to the body and on an FD it isnt.  The FC diff has two very wide arms that attach it to the body to stop it twisting or moving too much but it might just be the fact that your rubber mounts are sloppy.

FC or FD the mounts are a bitch to change at home.......

You have to drop the whole rear subframe on an FC,  not nice if your car is suffering from the rusty bolt syndrome....

i didnt remove my FD one so i cant comment but Brian has lots of experience of this.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

I do hate sloppy rubber !  ;)

In all seriousness, I am guessing you mean the 2 large round things on the end of the arms - like crabs eyes ?

Uhm.... so how much of a bitch is it to change the diff mounts on an FD? Also, If they ARE a bit sloppy is it an option to put a diff brace on and not bother changing the mounts? (Doesn\'t seem like a good idea to me on the face of it) Surely somebody has  some experience of this!!!!!  :)
FD or not FD? that is the question.

If you want to change your diff mounts you idealy need a ramp /pit, not a big job as such if you have all the tools. If you are going to be looking at bigger power [running lots of 1/4\'s] I would look at replacing not only the diff mounts but the engine mounts for the solid ones [makes for much smoother gear changes, especialy 2nd to 3rd :Giggle ] Diff brace is a good thing as well.

This may sound a dumb question but what exactly is wheel hop?

From what i\'ve read it sounds like its just the Diff twisting under WOT. Is it that simple? also is this the main cause of people distroying there diff at the Strip?

Adriansturgess

Don\'t know exactly what causes it but its a bit like having your own private kangaroo in the boot and at its worst it feels like the back axle is going to let go. First time it happened I thought I\'d had a rear tyre blowout. It really is ferrocious and worries the hell out of you.
FD or not FD? that is the question.

Grizzly

Yeh :)

I have been in a car when it was being WOT\'d away from some lights, I honistly thought it had broken somthing, It made an ungodly bang from the Back, enough for us to Pull over to check.

Adriansturgess

What\'s the beam for that connects the diff to the engine (runs alongside the prop shaft), isn\'t this a form of diff brace?
FD or not FD? that is the question.
