I recently took out a policy with them and received my docs today.
They have put my car down as a 2354cc Rx7 Type RS Grey Import. I rang them up and explained that FD\'s are not 2.4l but infact 2.6l for insurance purposes. On the logbook it says 1.3l aswell. When i initially rang the sales dude knew the score because i said its a 2.6l and he said a yes its the one that has 1.3 on the logbook. & yet he still put it down wrong...the lady today said that i only have 2.4l on my system no 1.3 or 2.6...i said im 110% correct in saying that its not a 2.4 your system is incorrect! She\'s gonna ring me back but what i wanted to know was, for those who have your FD\'s insured with them is it under a 2.4 or 2.6?

If 2.4l please ring them up and explain the situation
If 2.6l please ring them up and explain that im having problems and get them to refrence it to my policy as proof of it not being a 2.4. My ref is: NET142001/1

Many of the usual candidates use a standard database as supplied by the Association of British Insurers (ABI). If your car isn\'t on this list, they don\'t insure you. Or they use your details to fit the car (to get your business) but then the usual detail that is wrong is the engine capacity, enter the 2.3 story!

Nowadays, it seems far better to go to some of the specialists, that don\'t seem to use the general listings, but use their own (or other ones?), and actually go some way to know what car they are talking about.

Insurance details from the ABI:

I guess I would say that (i) I have no idea how old or uptodate this list is. As you can see, it is on a current web page though. (ii) I don\'t know whether the insurance company you are dealing with actually use this list. I was told years ago that most do, but that may have changed.

There are many other companies out there insuring FDs (correctly), for my own peace of mind anyone who starts down the road of "we don\'t have your car on the list", I just hang up on and don\'t bother wasting my time with them anymore. Too much of a risk, in my opinion, to end up with an un-insured car.

Well im looking at it one of 2 ways A Quote for £2600 that allows me to drive other cars aswell or Elephant for £2200 on a 10 month policy that doesnt. At my age they are the only 2 that will insure me :(

+ Elephant have it down as a 2.4 aswell as Churchill & Privilige! Cant anything be done about this?

Mr J.T

i got insured @19 with adrian flux they got it right as a 2.6 (1.3) So try them mate only thing i can think of

im now 22 insured with SKY insurance, again its the right 2.6(1.3)

I can only speak from my own experience, and this was...oh.....6 or 7 years ago when I bought my first FD. Same problem as you have (plus alot of other people, no doubt). I did get in contact with the ABI, and was told that their lists were complied by info supplied by the manufacturer. I did tell the guy I was dealing with that the info is wrong, but as you\'d expect, he wasn\'t interested. I did point out that if the list is wrong, how can people get proper insurance - but "deaf ears" and all that.
In my (limited) experience, more companies do seem to be getting the 2.6 down on their books, so some at least are starting to use more up to date lists. But I still have spoken to many that are still adamant that the FD is only 2.3 ("because my computer says so") or that it doesn\'t even exist! I find it amusing and frustrating in equal parts, that I am being told the car I drive does not exist! Er....whats that on my drive then!! It then gets even more difficult with a late model 7 - last year I have many conversations where I was being told my car was an RX8!

I presume you did do a fair bit of ringing around before settling on this quote?

And your comment on Elephant is surprising, \'cos I\'m sure alot of people are insured through them. I was last year, and I triple checked that the car was down as 2.6 - it was on all the documents to. I personally have found that some of the online applications are pretty poor, and if you ring the companies up, they are sometimes more helpful dealing with a real person!

Got a call this morning from A Quote. They said that according to new research and new statistics sent by manufacturers, the new 2.4L theory is how much power the 1.3L puts out. Everything has been sorted now though as they know that its 1.3L

This is now rather confusing though... To the best of my knowledge its always been classed as a 2.6L???

davpowell

im with elephant and mine is down as a 2.6 so they do know wot it is.

anthony

see my post for insurance for under 25s..

if they are insuring you make sure they put down 1.3 on your polcy as its not a 2.4.. if they put down a 2.4 its normally because they are picking up an older gen2 or whatever..
i had this problem so many times and many an argument with most insurance companies.

i went with noel dazley as they knew what they were talking about and were the cheapest.
