Ok, I should have been working, but was browsing the forum instead, and noticed Elephant insurance mentioned in a few posts... since my insurance is up in a couple of months (1995 UK Model RX7 - £670 last year) I took a hike over to their website and got an online quote...

Car Value: 7k
Fully Comp Protected
Car parked on the street
4000 miles a year

£277.20  - £150 excess  Mental or what???  :rollin

I\'ve got a good quote off them too. I\'m 25, 3 years NCD, 3 points, 4000k miles a year, 7k value. I put my missus on it and it knocked it down £200 to £590.

They have my car listed as a 92 Mazda RX7 turbo coupe import 2.6litre.

davehg

its not the 2.6 its the 2.9 for an fd
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

vxer

Came up as over £1000 for me! 2 years NCD, 10k a year, 6k value, exhuast + alloys + bodykit.

I won\'t argue with them. The car is a fresh import so I had to register it. It\'s registered as a 1.3. Part of registering it I had to insure the car first. So it\'s insured on the chassis number. They said it\'s a 2.6 so I\'m not to argue  ;)

davehg

just be sure that if you ever make a claim that you will get paid out, would be horrible if you didnt.

I\'ve doggedly ploughed my way through what must be every performance insurer in the land over the last 18 months, and have never heard any of them class the RX7 as a 2.9, always a 2.6...

M@r]{

2.9!?  Never heard of anyone referring to it as that.

davehg

oopps apologies guys lol ive been in cookoo land im getting it confused with the 2.3??? and 2.6???? (dave hides his head under the table in shame)  :god

Quotes like that are plain confusing. I doubt if you could insure a standard family saloon for that. Can\'t help but feel their computers thrown a wobbly, but a quotes a quote I guess, so well done... :cheers
FD or not FD? that is the question.

Sorry mate, would be questioning any \'stupid\' quote, all fine and dandy untill you come to claim, seen it to many times. For what it is worth, YOU are responsable to make sure YOUR quote pertains to YOUR car, read your small print, seen to many people ripped off by insurance companies \'cause they have not ensured their policy relates to the CAR  they are insuring.
Not wishing to rain on anyones parade, you must make sure that they are quoting you for the right car.

What I said, you have to understand a lot of these companies use call centres now in any country you can think of, their command of English is somewhat less than adiquate, you ARE  still liable if the quote is incorrect.
If you are paying less than say £500 to insure your FD in most cases they are quoting for the wrong car.

Well, they\'re a big company, lots of people seem to use them, and I\'m sure if they were shafting people on a regular basis they\'d soon get rectumized (sorry, just made that word up) from the insurance ombudsman mate... just a personal opinon of course. Maybe they just realise that because you\'ve got a decent motor with a bit of poke, you\'re more likely to love and cherish it than wrap it around the nearest lampost, unlike some bugger in their modded Corsa.
