Well people looks like the FD is now sold.
A guy came past on Saturday to give me the deposit. Deposit is for new tyres as I am not selling my alloys with the car. Im wanting to keep them for the next FD I get (hopefully next year) I fully intend to get a new one but you don\'t know what the future holds.......

Couple of questions, what are the stock tyre size, 225x50xR16?
Also I currently have a private plate on the car that is not included in the sale. How do I go about getting the old plate back on and keeping my plate even though it won\'t be going on another car for a few months?

Not to sure what I want to go for next. A newish car BMW 330ci (mine would have the optional indicators) an EVO 7, Audi S3 or new A3 2.0 sport. Or I might go for an older slower car and save up the money for as young an FD as I can get and still keep the other car. I have a few months to decide.

I intend to keep lurking around the site so you ain\'t got rid of me that easily!!!

Not sure about your other questions Steve but 225/50R16 ZR are indeed the stock tyre size. Funny enough I\'ve recently just looked into this. ;)

if you have a local dvla office near you (you can find the nearest office at http://www.dvla.gov.uk) you can take your V5c and MOT to them and they will put your number on retention and assign the original or age related plate to your car while you wait, i think from memory it costs about £120 but that includes the assignment fee when you put the plate back on another car. If you dont assign the plate to another vehicle within 1 year then you have to pay £25.00 to retain it for a further year. It can be done by post but takes a while and you will need to get the forms from the post office, so if you are selling then finding the nearest dvla centre is definately your best bet.

Its a sorry day Steve, glad your thinking of getting another one in the future though. Is it staying in Aberdeen or is the new owner from elsewhere?

Steve
 Regards to the plate...
You will need to go to your nearest DVLA sub office with all the cars documents(all must be valid).. It costs £80 and they will take your plate number and put it on whats called \'retention\' in your name.. What this means is you will have the plate in your name(ownership) on standby for a year or until you decide to put it on another vehicle.
If you do not use it on another car before the year, you will have to pay a £25 fee to keep hold of it, \'annually!\'
If you put it on another car, there is no fee... As this is where the £80 comes in!

Main thing to note, is this process can take up to 2 weeks.. so can be a bugger if selling the car in a hurry..  So do it asap if selling!
I lost one plate this way as the guy lived far away and wanted the car asap.
I have done 3 plates since that...
This is current info up until last December 05...

Not sure. The guy is from Hong Kong, I think he lives South of Aberdeen but works in Aberdeen. I actually hope I don\'t see the car as I won\'t be too happy as it won\'t be mine anymore!

Thanks TRex, going to the local DVLA office tommorrow.
I actually called up the DVLA main office number and they told me it takes 4-6 weeks!!!

being put on retention took about a week, after u sent off forms etc.

retention was quicker than transfer (when i asked) but costs slightly more than transfer extra £25 or something

Went there today, as you say Anthony, 5 workings days but this may be sooner. I can sell the car before I get the new V5 they said.
I have the old V5 as proof of ownership anyway.

TRex

Good one Steve.
Can you list the exact procedures here so we can know what the new set up and cost are please..
