I have a `92 model FD, fitted a bodykit so needed to purchse some `99 spec lights. When the bodyshop tried to fit them they found the bulb holders from my car did not match the notch pattern on the new lights.

Original Holder: 3 prong
New `99 spec lights: 4 notch

Do the `99 spec cars have a different holder ? If so, does anyone know where I can buy these from ?

Many Thanks.

Eddie

This happened to me, I could get the side light part to go in but the indicator woudl not, I fortunatly had some spares which had a better notch pattern and I took a hot soldering Iron to them and removed notch to make them fit.

Cheers Eddie,

It may be that I have to try butchering things, but I hope their may be an easier route by possibly getting the Bulb holder lead sets from either a later model 7 or even a different Mazda model.

I had the same problem with mine Ian..im afriad to say the way i did it was the file down the prongs on the std bulb holder to a stage where the holder would fit into the lamps well and then run a bit of insulation tape around the lamps and the holder.. crude i know..but does its job well and is out of sight.

Cheers Gord.R,

It seem`s the mod route is going to be the way. Pity as I would have prefered to have a proper part, even if it is out of sight.
I will also have a look to see if I can find some parts online to cheaply make some adaptor harnesses for people with the earlier model holders.

Thanks again for info.

if you take your 99 indicator/side light along to a breakers yard and look for a mazda 323f i am sure they will fit, i had the same problem with mine and that was the solution.

Cheers Chris,

Luckily the bodyshop who has my car also has a 323 in at present being dismantled ready to paint. I will ask the owner if he doesn`t mind me checking the bulb holders  ;)

Thanks again,

Ian

i would think it would have to be from around the same age car, might be wrong though.

Cheers chris.

Still not had time to get to the bodyshop, or anywhere else for that matter. I may pop into the local Mazda dealer when I finish work tomorrow morning and ask to have a look at the 323 they have on the forecourt, they have always been very helpful.

let me know how you get on - mines going into the body shop next week and will be having 99 specs fitted - need to overcome this issue as well   :3Confused

The dealer wasn`t open when I went past, and I didn`t feel like waiting the half hour until he was.

Got a couple of jobs to do at home and a conservatory company coming round, but if I get chance will pop round this afternoon, otherwise it will be the morning.

It will be open tomorrow as the job won`t be finishing early so I will be going past around 1100.

Not had much luck at the Mazda garage as the usual guy isn`t there and his replacement couldn`t be bothered!!

I am hoping to have more luck from a post I have put up on a 323 Owners Club. Hopefully I will find out soon as I need to put my car together to get my MOT, then I can re-tax her.

I Tried a few auto electricians, even got hold of some kit car  mags but no-one stocked the bulb holders !!
Finally though after a few hours searching for a Mazda 323 I FOUND the offending harnesses. Judging by the shape of the 323 it was one of the last pop-up light models (H reg) as the newer shape cars have the sidelights in with the main light unit.
They fit perfectly and only cost me £3 inc the bulbs.

Hope that helps,  Ian
