Hi,

I have just purchased a wave expander so as to be able to get UK stations on the Bose acoustic wave system already installed in my RX. Would anyone know whether I need to take off the centre dash piece to remove the stereo or can it be taken out easier than that?

It consists of a twin head unit with one being CD and the other radio/tape.

If I need to take off the whole centre is there any guide or help available that anyone knows of? I searched this forum but couldn\'t really locate anything.

All help greatly appreciated.

So all you guys can turn the RX into something faster than a Space Shuttle but not remove the stereo ?

Bugger....

Should be able to take them out as a normal one....

Pull the surround off and see if there is any clips or small screws to bend, un hook or take out and then just slide it out

Hi Andy,

Do you mean the surround of the actual stereo unit itself ? All seems pretty solid and thats why I wondered whether the whole centre console may have to be removed ?

Maybe I just haven\'t pulled hard enough ?

Thanks,

J

With most stereos there is a thin plastic surround that goes around the unit inbetween the dash and the unit itself, when this is removed there is normally screws/holes/pins holding the stereo in place.

If there is small holes then normally you need the relevant metal prongs to slide into the holes to release the clips which hold the stereo in its cage.

I have never come across a stereo which required the whole center console to be removed to be taken out.....

On my pug the radio (non-factory) was held in at the back by a nut and bolt. No realistic way to undo it without taking the entire dash apart, but since the radio didn\'t work, and there was no way I was going to take the entire dash apart for a radio swap, I actually had to destroy the radio to remove it. Went in through the front with hammer, chisel, screwdriver, pliars, and a dremel (which broke).

A fun way to spend 10 minutes, but not if you want to keep the radio :)

Yep you were right. On either side of the stereo there were tiny plastic covers that once removed showed two pin holes. I got a special tool from Halfords and pushed this in the holes and out it pulled.

Got a lovely new Pioneer unit now which is retro in style and suits the RX interior but will be keeping the acoustic wave speaker system. Just need to somehow work out now why the old system would make noise (but was buggered) and this new one lights up, triggers the aerial e.t.c but no sound... ?

Will get there by the summer :)

Sounds like the unit I got for mine... plays mp3, face off, brushed metal, dead simple with no mad flashing bits?  Was the only one I could find that was quality and didn\'t look like it was aimed @ the max power brigade.

Thats the one ! Iaint do you have the factory fitted Bose acoustic wave speaker system and did your Pioneer connect up to that fine? I have connected it all in, it lights up and the aerial works up & down but no sound ? bit odd as all the wires match up. Checked the Pioneer on some small speakers and thats fine.

Also, did you have to fill one space in the centre dash where the old unit was taken out, (being a twin head stereo) ?

It wasn\'t this hard to do when I was 18 tinkering with my mothers yellow Metro hehe
