AST Elimination thoughts?

Hi,

I managed to snap a pipe on the AST while changing a split hose from the filler to the AST. Now Ive got 2 options at the moment...

Im torn between eliminating the AST using the 86 FC Filler cap or repairing the original AST using redux intially and then resin afterwards?

Ive read that removing the AST reduces the capacity of coolant you can hold. How much of an issue might this be on a stock engine? Would it be more of an implication if using stock rad?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? My membership went in the post today btw! woohoo! :chat

Cheers

I run mine for a while without the ast, but I was seeing slightly higher temps in the end, so I bought an Ali ast from one of the Vendors, I now see even lower temps then before

I wouldn\'t mess with trying to repair an AST. It\'s just not worth the risk. Fit a new one. The plastic ones go brittle with age (high underbonnet temps) but there can be issues with caps not sealing properly on the Alloy ones (mine failed in this way) so I\'m back with a plastic one now. They should last a good few years before needing replacement.
FD or not FD? that is the question.

Looks like ill be going with a new plastic one then....have any o you an idea of the part number from mazda? Or a vendor who might sell it ever so slightly cheaper?
This was my conversation with the Mazda Parts guy when I called up:

Him - "Hello Milcars Mazda, Parts Department, How can I help"
Me - "Hi, Im after an Air Separator Tank for an RX-7"
Him - "We don\'t sell parts for the RX-7"
Me - "Er, youre Mazda, If you don\'t sell them, then who does?"
Him - "I don\'t know, we haven\'t sold a part for an RX-7 in a long time"
Me - "That doesnt mean you dont sell them, it means you havent sold one in a long time! I can give you a chassis number or Number Plate if it helps?" (You can sense im already getting annoyed by this point)
Him - "No, you\'ll have to try Head office, sorry"
and then he put the phone down on me....
