Hi there,

Is the stock catback too restrictive? I have an HKS catback on my FD but its too damn noisey by far - was thinking of replacing it with a stock exhaust, but don\'t want to restrict the flow...

I heard you can get a bung (may have originally come with one) to reduce the noise a bit. Anyone know if it works, or how you get them?

Ta, Paul.

You can get a bung, I imagine any exhaust place worth their salt can knock you one up.

The stock system will no doubt have a smaller internal bore, if you only have a catback, i.e. you are on the original downpipe and cat, I doubt the HKS will make alot of difference.

The original cat is certainly in there, not sure about downpipe. I do plan to get rid of the cat when my PFC arrives - whats the storey with MOT emissions?

Cheers, Paul.

Most people tend to by the Racing Beat rear box as it looks like the standard exhaust but the noise levels are sporty without being loud (and of course in ST/ST it looks nice).

If you remove the CAT the car will fail the MOT emissions test. I think there is a loophole regarding 1992 cars. Can\'t member what it was though. Maybe they are allowed worse emission figures.

I think some owners swap between the CAT and the straight through pipe when MOT time is due.

I believe some of the free flow CAT\'s are almost as free flowing as straight through pipe anyway.

Luckily for us lot of Guernsey there is no MOT or emissions test. There\'s a guy next door who has a TVR Tuscan with a racing exhaust on it. Kinda know when he\'s going to the shops!

Paul, it all depends where you take it mate for the emission, there is a garage near sleaford, only about an hour from yours. And i know of 3 of us that have had MOTs in the last few months, all decatted pretty much, and it didnt even go near the tester. And thats on 1994-5 cars :mmmm

Thanks guys...

Anyone know how much sports cats go for on an rx7?

Guess it all depends how difficult it is to take off the straight through pipe and re-fit the cat come MOT time! ;)

Cheers, Paul.
