Got the Dragon mid pipe and the back box, no fixtures or anything came with it and since no garage will put it on the ramps and fix it within 2 weeks I reckon I\'ll do it myself tonight if I can get the car high enough, does anyone know if I should use a gasket for it or should i just use gasket paste? seems a bit off a messy/bodge job to do that or is it the only way? Otherwise where will I go for the gasket? Halfrauds dont seem to do any.

Thanks

hmm, thats the other problem, the nearest mazda garage is in Lincoln a nice 30minute drive each way  they make them for the diameter of the dragon exhaust then? or is it no diffferent to standard?

grinder

is the dragon exhaust gonna bolt up to a stock pipe ?

if so then mazda will sell the gaskets

you MIGHT beable to use mazda 6 ones - but i would take yours to check it against

i even went round all the local exhaust places to find one and couldnt

there are just some parts that you HAVE to get from mazda .. will then not send you one thru the post .. failing that speak to Pip , Dragon etc...

Its bolting to the stock downpipe, the flanges look massive, not sure what to expect from the downpipe flange when I take the old cat off. turning out to be a right pig this, All I want to do is change the friggin exhaust, think that this might be the final nail in RX ownership, its really peeing me off now. 2 more friggin weeks before I can get the fcuking exhaust fitted.

davegttph1

Wouldnt mind but when you spend the best part of £400 on an exhaust I would expect the gaskets to be supplied with it. especially when your connecting 2 parts of an exhaust supplied by the same company.

Try a truck parts supplier, they should have 3inch exhaust gaskets ;)

What about tractors? plenty up your way ;)

davegttph1

lol is there? I know theres lots of tractors blocking the roads but shops selling parts, no chance. Searching through //www.yell.co.uk atm and dont see anything, infact. the subaru garage might have what Im after....

thanks for the input :)

Exhaust paste will do the trick for now, it just may not last as long as a gasget.  I always use a decent silicone. 35 year guarantee silicone sealant resists everything including heat oil and petrol.  I used it on my turbo manifold and when i took it off it was still rubbery and my turbo glows red.  It wont flake off like paste but it must be a good quality one.  The length of guarantee indicates this.

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Hi Dave,

You could save yourself money if you borrow/buy a couple of ramps ( they are cheap enough from halfords) and back the car up on them then jack the front up a bit and put an axle stand or block of wood so the car is safe.

All you will be undoing is four main bolts and then the two 6mm nuts that hold the probe in the side of the cat.

One tip is drown all the exhaust rubbers with WD to make them slide of the mounting bars O/K and also on reassembly.

Another tip if removing a stock silencer is to undo the two 12mm socket size nuts that holds the support arm to the back of silencer as its a pig to get the rubber off otherwise.

For reassembly I personaly use walkers exhaust paste on the flanges but have also used the silicon that Tony has suggested to good effect many times as well.

I have done this job many times on FD\'s both over a pit and on my back and providing all of your bolts come undone O/K ( they normaly do ) you should only be looking at 1 to 1.5 hours to do this job in total.

If you do this yourself you will not only save yourself money but also have the satisfaction of have achieved carrying out a mod on your car yourself :cool

Hope this helps and good luck :)
All the best Clive

lol yes get some ramps, thought of that but its not that easy, the car wont just drive on normal ramps, Ive feeked about so many times with 3metre long pieces of skirting board supported with bricks underneath etc just 2 get it in the air, the car is too low to get a jack under etc... its a royal PITA

No gaskets from any of the garages in town, been round for ages. although the local exhaust place gave me some new nuts and bolts to make the job slightly easier....

Going to have a go with Silicon Sealant tomorrow morning.
