After having my first flood I have not been able to get the car to start.
I have followed Glenn B\'s guide on MRC religiously (remove plugs, egi relay, turn engine over, leave, oil in through plug holes, turn over, leave, put plugs in, turn over, etc etc) When I did the routine I got a very loud \'chuffing\' noise from the plug holes and some white smoke from the exhaustas well as from the plug holes.

I have got new plugs and tried the above several times now, but everytime I have taken the plugs back out to do the routine they are wet with petrol.

All that happens when I do try to start her is a whinning noise, lot\'s of popping and white smoke out of the exhaust.

Is there any thing else I should be looking at? Apart from the coil packs and HT leads?

Cheers

Will

If you flooded the car you have to deflood by removing egi fuse, removing spark plugs foot to the floor on acc pedal and crank until all the excess fuel it out of the combustion chamber. Dry off the plugs refit them, re-insert egi fuse and start the car up.

are you taking the right fuse out, because if i recall there are 2 called egi and one still pumps fuel through when turning over the engine.

I have done that routine twice now and just got the same result\'s.

May well explain why she hasn\'t started yet, I have some different plugs being delivered today so I will go through Glenn\'s process again take out both egi relays and see if it works this time.

Then sound like you didn\'t crank it till all the fuel was out the combustion chambers. If a car is well flooded it will take quite a bit of cranking. Don\'t worry about the oil just crank the combustion chambers are empty makesure the plugs are dry. the fuse you want to remove is located in the blck fuse box next to the battery. The black fuse box is about 6 inches long and about an inch wide. It\'s the middle fuse. There are 5 fuses in total. Press the acc pedal all the way to the floor while you crank.

I spent the best part of a day cranking the first time, and until the battery went flat on the second day. There was no apparent discharge (couldn\'t think of another word) from the plug holes on the second day of cranking just the occasional puff of smoke?

Would leaving the plugs out all week help with getting rid of the excess fuel (evaporation)?

I will be out there tomorrow come rain or shine cranking like I\'ve never cranked before!

EDIT: I took out the EGI relay and fuel pump relay, one was black the other was yellow IIRC.

Did you remember to heat the plugs on the gas cooker ring, or blow torch prior to fitting, it does put heat into the plugs and dries them out
Lead me not into temptation, I can find it myself...
But i can always do with some help now due to, my advancing years!

Unfortuanately I don\'t have the pleasure of a Gas cooker.

I can stick em in the oven for a bit that any good?

Will have to consult my Delia Smith cook book to check time and temp  :2eek

Removing the fuel pump relay does NOT stop the fuel pump from pumping.

Thanks for the input Martiny but, I already know that removing the fuel pump relay doesn\'t work, thats why I took the egi relay and fuse out \'aswell\' as the fuel pump relay.  :cool

Any \'useful\' info like how long to heat the plugs for will be gladly received though  :Hammer

Just popped to Halfruads to pick up a battery charger and saw so many nice Jap cars heading up to Bolney  :reallymad  :reallymad

Maybe if I get her started I\'ll be able to get along there.

Not fair  :(  :(  :(

Basically, it\'s just perseverance that will get you there. Mine was flooded by the guy who had come to fit my alarm. I had my plugs out & in quite a few times. Eventually it got there. Definitely try to burn off any excess puel that\'s on the plugs. As you have no gas cooker, see if you can get hold of a blowtorch. Will make life a lot easier for you. Putting a new battery on mine helped. It lost it\'s power far too quickly, so it definitely needed replacing. If your battery is in tip-top condition, you can at least be sure you\'ll get a decent spark.

Battery is on charge as it was dead as a dodo, did a day and a half\'s worth of cranking before giving up though, so it must be in good nick. Taking it\'s time charging though, been on since 10 o\'clock this morning and still going strong.

Toe it round the block, Get to about 30mph and let the clutch out gentaly in second with the Ign on don\'t do it in Bursts as if it was a Boinger, let the engine turn over for a few seconds. If its flooded this will get it going, Just make sure it has enough juice in the battery to light the dash lights at least.

Just be prepaired for a bit of Smoke :)

When mine flooded, pressing the accelrator down fully stopped the petrol going through, cranked it over for 20 secs to remove all the excess petrol, turned the key after and started first time :)
