HI all,

Just got through fitting my gauges and stereo.

Boost gauge is definitely working ok, water temp gauge seems to be working ok, lights up etc etc but I\'m not sure the sensor is. I just left it idling for 5 mins or so and the normal temp gauge went to the middle but the defi gauge didn\'t move from the bottom?

What temp would it normally kick in at? I know Pip said it would only work once the thermostat had opened?

Any help much appreciated :)

nikp

If it\'s fitted in the position where it will only come on where the thermostat has opened, then it will start to show a temprerature when the coolant reaches 80-81c. This usually happens after about 10 minutes or so.

i had the same prob - couldnt get it to get a temp on tick over - take it for a short spin and it should work

check the gauge aswell - take a cup of boiling water out - stick probe in it and make sure you get a reading

failing that leave it a good 20 mins at tick over :D

It\'s sorted :) It started working once I was on the move.

Now I know my car is overheating, oh joy :(

I\'ll put a separate post about that maybe.

Basically the check coolant light has never come on nor has the standard temp gauge ever moved from the middle but twice yesterday it reached 100oC whilst waiting at idle, even going 80 last night when it was cooler it didn\'t drop below 80oC.

FD3UK

Why do you think its over heating, sounds about normal to me.

probedb

I dunno I just didn\'t expect it to reach 100oC I guess.

What\'s normal operating temps for peeps? I need to alter the alarm on the Defi gauge cos it beeps once it reaches 100oC.

Mr J.T

mine usually sits at about 80*
have u got a pfc? if so u could change when the fans come on

nikp

It\'s not meant to drop below 80 - it should, in fact, read about 85 for normal riving if you have standard thermostat. Also, if you have he standard ecu, then the fans won\'t come on till 100, or thereabouts. Everything sound normal to me.

Mr J.T

yeah thats sounds about right
but with the pfc u are able to change the fans

FD3UK

You can\'t change when fans come on with PFC, you need datalogit to be able to do that.

I have included a snapshot of datalogit manual which shows PFC original fan on times.

Mr J.T

on the pfc what are the options u can change then?

FD3UK

probedb

Phew :) Thanks everyone. I\'ll go change the default alarm thingy on the gauges.

I have a PFC to go in but not just yet. Still got speakers to install in the front doors.

not strictly true.

You can change it on the PFC just not through the commander interface.

FD3UK

That is what I said, should have said through commander to be specific.
