Hi there guys, just been on the phone with both rotechniks and Carl at hayward rotary and im slowly getting convinced to turn to the light and change my 13bEGi to the face melting induction roar of the carb.....Its a difficult decision to make given that i spent all last year developing fuel injection for cars!

Either way, whats everybody else running? I am looking for streetable performance, with power gains where possible. Anybody got any induction fannimoulds or carbs laying about for sale? who can help me tune it once it\'s all in?

Cheers guyss

Im no expert but I would have thought fuel injection would have been better, why is Carl changing from carb in his 4 rotor to fuel inj if carb is better??

The clue is in the \'old\'-bit :)

Electronic fuel injection and engine management is new skool - cause its \'better\' :P

but on a 6 port 13b a carb will net a power increase over the standard fuel injection will it not ? and whats cheaper buying a carb or the plethora of bits required for non standard fool injection.

I\'ve gone with a carb for the 323 ... why ? because I want to keep it simple, theres going to be enough fabrication to worry about rather than messing with wiring (+ I\'ve just fitted a fuel injected engine to my mates rally car and fancy a change!)

This has been something I have been pondering for ages with regard my own plans. I came to the conclusion (although this is not fixed!) that when building a true \'old skool\' it should fit its title as much as possible, and thus only a honking down draft would suffice.

If however the build is for a beast based around an old skool shell I would more than likely choose to go efi to suit the more outrageous engine!

Just the thoughts that have rattled around my head for a while now......

Carb is much easier to setup and you will learn a lot more than taking your motor to an expert to be \'mapped\' everytime you make a slight change.

well a 48IDA will flow much better than the standard EFI system. Plus, i have room in the beetle\'s engine bay for it! the EFI and manifold stick out the back!

I thought this was a relatively common exchange? has anyone done it?

He has EFI working already - wouldnt be much of a deal to go aftermarket ems and buy a cheap laptop etc and diy tune. Alternative is buying carb(s), manifolds and all that stuff. Theres no right ansa - totally depends what u want out of it dude - if u want the \'best\' out of your motor aftermarket efi is the best option - the majority of all cars these days wouldnt use efi if it wasnt a good choice...

If u want carb kudos get carbs and fit them. Likewise if u wanna mess about with jets and stuff. If u fancy playing with a lap top rather than a screw driver then efi is still an option.

Down to u mate - whatever u thnk will float your boat the most :P

don\'t forget a 48 IDA will cost you arm and a leg for an old one !

dubber91

ok well the prob with aftermarket EFi is the fact that it needs dyno time really....which costs a fair whack. Plus, as i say, the induction is a tight squeeze......a REALLy tight squeeze. I have tried manufacturing an induction elbow to enter into the rear of the car and up to a window, but i think it is just too restrictive......

MikeLMR

how about a DHLA ... they are cheaper to buy than an IDA

I doubt you are on the limit of your standard fuel injection either, Brett had a fair few mods on his and still ran the EGI system

dubber91

what sort of mods? as i say this isnt really for increased power; more for ease of use and no need to route induction lines....
