With everything else being equal what power difference would there be between the 2? Assuming the car has got twin induction,  Power FC, mild port etc.

Cheers.

If it\'s cause your thinking of getting one then :

I have no idea of the difference once it\'s all mapped but I did enquire about them with Pip and he told me the high flow cats would need replaceing approx every 3 years  :3Confused

No not got one or thinking of getting one as not an fd owner as yet but I was wondering if I got a late fd, say 96 ish and wanted to mod it I would need a cat to get it through the MOT wouldn\'t I ??????????

I\'m afraid so.  If you go for a mid 94 JAP car or earlier then you can legally use a full decat  :chat

Is that right? I\'ve got a 93 Jap model with a full decat, and I thought it was 92 backwards that didn\'t need the CATs. Will be very pleased if that is confirmed.

Yes that is right gary mate, ive got a 94 and no cat and my car never even went near the emission tester for this year MOT,  best bet is to take it to the garage in helpringham (nr sleaford) as they love these cars ;)

That\'s the unfortunate problem with the UK cars, for them 92 onwards you need a cat, not just to pass emissions but thay made it law.  Same applies for post 94 jap cars, its illegal to run full decat, but how many people do, not just rx\'s but most people who tune their\'s do it.

Splendid :) Re-Worx did tell me about a place in Reading - but that\'s a hell of a way to go for an MOT. Sleaford sounds better.

Not due for another 6 months, but worth knowing all the same.

Cheers :)

Has anyone else found this in practice

Rixio

He told me the same thing...he also said pre 95 can go full de-cat without any probs as the law does not state you have to have one for grey imports

I have been running one for the last 5+ years, and it can still pass the stricter post \'95 test, even though it doesn\'t need to.

It was a Bonez one from Rotechniks, cost enough mind!

I am about to replace my slilenced de-cat mid-pipe with a Knightsports high flow cat pipe on my \'96 import FD - as well as mate it to a Knightsport dual down-pipe.

I am doing this as I want to be \'legal\' and not have to worry about emissions.

I haven\'t heard about the 3 year replacement, it would depend on mileage.

I could be interested in the silenced midpipe, what make is it?  is it likely to be for sale?

I don\'t know what the make is to be honest, it was on the car when imported.  It will be for sale - I\'ll start a thread if Jeff (J.j.) doesn\'t want it - he has first refusal.

Back on topic, I am betting that the high flow cat will be slightly more restrictive than a silenced pipe, which is why I have added the dual down-pipe to try and claw some of that lost power back.

In any case, car will be rolling road mapped with the new setup so we can compare the difference.
