have installed Alpine SPS-171A components in my car, and the front right hand tweeter just doesn\'t sound right. It sounds almost like a blown mid speaker would-it cannot handle the high trebles, it just sounds messy instead.

At first i thought it was the wiring so i checked the crossover and connections at the back of the head unit (which it is running off). They all seemed fine. I sent the tweeter back to the audio shop i bought it from, and they tested it and said it is working fine. Very strange! Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be??:xconfused

Not sure if this would help but if you remove the cover off the crossover there\'s a dip switch or two that allow you to alter the output level from 0dB to -3 or -6dB, might help?

Are you sure you\'ve got the wire polarity right, they can sound really bad if they are back to front.

yeah i just thought that! i was really careful at the time to get the polarity right but i\'ll give it a go when it\'s sent back. i\'ll try swopping over the good one too to see if it\'s the crossover.

fault in the crossover if the mid sounds ok?

You can test a speaker with an AA battery but i can\'t remember which direction the coil moves when you apply power to it !

Are you using any of the original speaker cable ??

yeah im using original wire from the crossover to the head unit as i didn\'t want the hassle of feeding new wire through the doors. as mentioned though the mid driver is fine. we will see...
