I dont believe it !!!

Now my car is making a funnny barking noise when driving the car and when the revs are around 2000 rpm. It saounds like a vibration sort of noise and occurs if I am just pulling away from stood still.

I got the car home and got Dad to put his foot on the accelerator at different levels, it seems that the noise is round the airpump pulley. What happens is that as the revs increase the end of the pulley (the end when looking in the enginebay from the front) stops and then as the revs come down it makes a loud click and then starts moving again.

Is this normal ? Why is it making a noise ?

I dont have a cat in the car and correct me if I am wrong but doesnt the airpump go to one side of the cat ? If so I have disconnected this and blocked it. Would this matter ?

The problems have only occured recently since I have had my boost problem. Maybe this whoosh of trapped air sort of noise is related to the air pump.

Please has anyone got any ideas ?

Cheers,
Gareth

You can remove the air pump and just block the pipe to the cat without any probs mate.

Garath. Ditch the air pump it doing nothing but ****ing you off. You can also ditch 2 solinoids etc....

To make you feel better when i had my car MOT\'d the hydro carbons were 10 %

i havent got an fds but i believe the air pump uses an electric clutch which is why it is stopping and starting, some one might correct me but i think there is a two pin connector on top you can unplug to stop it cutting in ?

thanks for the info chaps, the car is annoying me at the mo, anything that could go wrong is going wrong.

Anyway what do I have to do to remove the airpump ? Or more importantlly how much is it going to cost me lol.

Could this be whats causing the boost problem I mentioned in another thread ?

Thanks.

Been reading on here :
http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/air_pump.htm

the first section says you can disable it by disconnecting the electric connection on the top.

Could I do this so I wont have to fiddle around more by pulling belts and pulleys off ?

I suppose more importantly will it eliminate my noise ?!!!?
