we ALL know that we are only suppose to boot the car once the oil is warm - so the point is "When is it warm enough ?"

i have looked into putting an oil temp gauge somewhere in the car

it is easier to buy the oil temp adaptor from mazdatrix or can i buy a temp sensor that i could fit into the sump plug ?

i have never even looked into this before so not sure where to start !

is it possible to put a T peice into an oil line and run a sensor from that

i have seen the oil temp gauges and they all seem electrical - which means that you must have some sort of sensor somewhere on the car

so :-

1 - where can i get a oil temp sensor
2 - where is the best place to put the sensor
3 - is it true that the oil in the sump is cooler than everywhere else
4 - is it better to get the adaptor that fits before the oil filter
5 - has anyone done this to a 2nd gen car

i think that about covers it  :D

Thanks

Stu

Stu,

I\'m also looking at fitting an oil temp guage (but in an FD), I believe the best place to put it is in a \'sanwich plate\' that fits where the oil filter lives (see a specialist like Think Automotive for this http://www.thinkauto.com). The temp. here should be more representative of what is getting pumped around the engine (ie. this is better than measuring the temp. at the oil cooler(s)).

Thanks,

Adrian

i have looked on the demon tweaks site - and you are looking at £28 for the gauge - this comes with a temp sensor and adaptors

all the adaptors do is change the thread size so you can screw it into the sump rather than the sump plug

OR for another £28 you can get a thing that fits into the oil cooler lines

i know what you mean about the plate though - they are about $46 at mazdatrix ( i think it was that price ) and $13 to ship

just checking think auto\'s to see what they have in the way of plates/adaptors

i will get back with my findings  !

right then

just spoke to think auto\'s and they are SOOOOOOOOOOOO helpfull !!!

right then - they make a plate to fit between the engine and oil filter - this is about £25

in this is a whole ( threaded ) for either a mechanical sender or an electrical one ( the mechanical has a pipe , the electric one is a wire )

this then fits to the oil temp gauge ( again either electric or mechanical )

he prefers mechanical ones as these are more accurate - but you have to run a pipe to the gauge not just a little thin wire

he can supply a gauge aswell for 35 ( and a boost gauge for 25 )

he says that he is in the process of designing one and should take about 2 weeks !

sounds ideal to me !!

but i dont like the idea of doing it first !! ha ha ha

the only thing you need to check is that you can add an extra 1.5 inches onto the oil filler area

gonna get the tape measure out tonight and have a look

at this moment in time im looking at a A pillar pod , boost and oil temp gauges !!!

Thanks

Stu
