Is it best to get my new import undersealed professionally or can i do it myself, if so what should i use?

J4P RX

Be careful undersealing it.  It should really be done from new.  If you do it now, then you may well trap years of dirt/mositure etc into the car which will kill it and make it a bit of a nightmare.

Im not an expert or anything, but have heard mixed things about undersealing older cars.  Waxoil may be an option, but I dont know what this is either :D

Would you suggest leaving it and seing what happens?

PS You must be on the forum as much as me - thanks for answering so quickly

J4P RX

Yes I live here :D

I dont know what to suggest, but there was another thread recently that had some info in about underseal and waxoil etc so maybe try a search to dig it out.

I would look for you, but im off trying to find a capture of 5th Gear for the drift feature...

i dont like underseal at all.  what happens is, when a tiny bit of rust start,s it can creep around under the under seal without detection untill one day your floor is no more and you wonder how that happend. if you were to sandblast it all properly and then cover it first in primer then spray sealer, very rubbery, then it will last longer than the car itself but as this is not easy or practical i would do what i did.

on a ramp clean everywhere to get rid of all loose dirt and oil. then waxoil it all. it is quite easy and cheap if you use the firms materials too. it is really a summer job though as there is too much moister under your car and you dont want to seal that in

money has no meaning when you own a rotor motor

I\'d agree with the waxoil comments. Having restored several classic cars that had been undersealed it\'s hasn\'t convinced me of it\'s merits. It also makes one hell of a mess when you try and weld to it !

Having said that I have seen bare metal convered with underseal and last for years without rusting. Preparation is every thing.

I took delivery of my FD in early november and will underseal it. Although I\'m using it for a daily driver I don\'t want to trap any salt in - Which it probably now has so will power wash it and waxoil in the spring.

scooby_si

So playing devils advocate how suseptable are FD\'s without underseal to rust etc?

Here we go, got my bullet proof anorak on for this answer !!

l have been around these cars for a little while now and have never know rust be a problem at all topside or underside with a Gen 3 import or otherwise, so undersealing especially this time of year with the damp etc l feel would cause more harm than good.

Unless any of you know any different.
All the best Clive

Did i read that right Clive\'s confessing to being an anorak lol
Suits me if it saves me enough dough for a tank of fuel!

Hi
Saw this thread as I was waiting for Hard drive to defrag on other PC!
I think you are better off using Waxol. Underseal is Black and gets everywhere. Waxol can be sprayed with a nozel and get into not easy to reach places. Thats my opinion anyway!
Keep going till you get it right!

so hang on "Waxoyl Under sealing" are we still saying this is unecessary & potentially bad or is this actually better than sum nasty underseal & potentially worth doing especially in good conditions etc etc?
Si (soon to have call from motomall so working out the necessities )

Hi\'
Well Waxoyl as was said is better done when New. As alot of cars when new anyway come from factory with some protection on them. As sprayed inbetween doors and such. But if nice and grease free would not go amiss anywhere. But saying that then Underseal would also be good for some situations! Waxoyl is easier to clean of than underseal.
