I\'m getting my FD mapped at WGT on tuesday 7th March. Just wondering whether it\'s worth getting it mapped for 95 RON fuel? Will i lose much potential in power? Say, for arguments sake, i could get 350bhp on 98RON - what sort of power would i lose on 95 RON?

And, once mapped on 95 RON - could I put 98 RON in it? And if so, would i get a gain in power from doing so?

map for 98 and stay with it, less chance of detonation, pump fuels are crap quality so use the best. Octane can vary by 4-6 easily from pump to pump

Map on optimax and you will be fine if you use bp ultimate 97 ron, or tesco 99 ron, on any other occasion afterwards, it will be fine.
If for some reason you would want to map the car for 95 ron you would have to detune it.

on a impreza p1 that was mapped on optimax i had to put super in once and knocklink lit up like a christmas tree

Was this an aftermarketk knock monitor? or do you have them as standard on the p1?

it was aftermarket the ecu.s are good in that they will retard the ignition when high knock is recorded..but for extra pce of mind using a independant bosch sensor u can tell if u are getting high readings..bob rawle developments use the knocklink from new zealand but think there is an updated gauge version as well..pretty easy to wire up and quite accurate as well

i had a p1 too!!  :cheers
Also got myself a knocklink but took the lights out and mounted them remotely in an a-pillar pod. Bob Rawle mapped it on optimax and i never got any activity, used bp ulitimate once and i also thought it was christmas.. :Nono!

Was wondering if the knocklink would work on our cars, but i think we need a separate lamda or something like that....

knocklink wld work it doesnt use the lambda is independant knock sensor no need to wire other than live and ground...
