Oooh whats the secret new project? I cant make it out :(

Richard

A little bit of inspiration for you Mike

Although the air filter through the bonnet trick was done back in 1980 by this guy in the States

Now, where to find pics of a modified 1000  :3Confused  :Giggle

oooooooooh I\'m inspired!

Michael ... theres a big clue in Richards post ... but shhhhhhhh its top secret.

P.S its not mine and its not a rotary :(  but it is going to be cool.

that is just............*spurts*..............sorry! :InLove

some very cool pics on this page. Top motorvation for a work in progress.
 chers, michael.

Richard

Right enough of the drooling and dreaming,  lets get this thread back on track. :Giggle

Talking of track - after reading Ray\'s Oulton thread I have realised that mine is suffering from twitchy handling after fitting the 2 1/4\'s and running it lower to the ground and, not being entirely up on my suspension design/settings, need some help :3Confused

Mike you say you got the castor blocks from RB -are they RX2,3 or 4 or would I be right in thinking they\'re all the same?

How much does it drop the ARB, and does it move the bar forwards or backwards in relation to where it was?

Also had a thought on your camber prob - can you extend the length of your TCA\'s? When I fitted the Ford axle to mine I fitted rose joints to the lower trailing arms to allow axle alignment.

It involved cutting around 3 inches off the body mount end (to do away with the bush) and then welding a piece of angle iron, with a captive nut on it, over the end to take a  rose joint, and so allow movement of the axle fore and aft in the arch.

I think the same principle could be applied to your TCA\'s.Its basically a cheap way of doing this:

The angle would sit across the width of the arm where the 2 bolts are in the above pic. I used angle iron as it allowed me to weld along the underside, as well as around the edges, giving a larger surface area.

Cheers,
 Rich ;)

Hi Richard, the caster blocks pulled the ARB forwards as the mounting on the rx3 323 chassis is angled, it also drops the front of the bar by a few inches.

not sure if the others kits are the same ? I seem to remember some have offset holes rather than just a big spacer like these rx3 ones.

Heres hoping mine handles OK ... otherwise its going to be a tedious drive down on the 18th :D

Well I got the 323 running tonight and its been for a run down the road, the front suspension seems to be working well, but needs tracking before I am sure.

The rear suspension is not working at all well. I think the safest thing to do at this point is to go back to the standard stuff as the dampers seem to be solid ! (siezed ? ... they moved when I fitted them) I\'m also begining to suspect that they are not monotube shocks and/or do not work upside down (they are fitted 180 degree\'s out to the original fitment)

The electronic ignition box seems to work really well though. And its great to have a dash with a tacho at last.

bit of a step backwards but considering whats changed it\'s to be expected.

MikeLMR

oh and my Dad fixed the wobbly mirrors  :driving :King ... by taking them to bits and tightening them up (why didn\'t I spot that !) Top job :)

MikeLMR

bit more cheerfull tonight. Got off earlyish from work and bought the 323 a nice huuuuge battery big enough to cope with any engine I wish to fit in the future, then fitted all the dash back together, doesn\'t look to shabby even without any restoration :)

Also borrowed the tracking guage so I can get the tracking set and test drive again after refitting the standard shocks. Now on the lookout for some adjustable shocks with a bush type fitting at each end open length 500mm and closed length 345mm.

MikeLMR

After the Oldschool mega mini meet I have been inspired to crack on with the 323 and get a rotary in it.  :3gears-rh

The parts list is gradually being ticked off and over last few days I\'ve sorted some parts.

Roll Cage - Ex 323 challenge (thanks Richard! + NOS bits)
Oil cooler - Fleabay - from a 2nd gen
SP Rear shocks - NOS
front chrome bumper and bits - NOS
6 port 13b
Clutch
Carb and manifold

Hopefully once we get a free slot in the garage I can get cracking on fitting the cage and giving that rotary a good home !

caged photo (not fitted yet ... just for transport !!)

Good stuff Mike. I will race you to a complete conversion. I do  have a hrad start but alot more to do until it is finished.
Maybe we could race at rotorstock. (youd kick me ar£e but would look great for the cameras!
 cheers, michael.

MikeLMR

could be 12a on 12a for rotorstock ;)
